I have a budget of $1200 for a reciever. I probable will be only using 7.2 channel more than likely only 5.1. I am more interested in how the unit will sound. I have been looking at Yamha RX 1070, Rx a2070
Denon X4500H, X4400h and the Onkyo TX RZ920. I appreciated it if I could get some advise on which one has a better sound with music and Movies. I have Klipsch 280f fronts and 450c center. I haven't decided on rears and a sub. I have an open floor plan with cathedral ceilings and concrete floor so having problems with wires for rear speakers, i even thought about wireless but didn't want to loose quality. Thanks in Advance for your help.

I would run speaker wire somehow. 5.1 is much better than 3.1. Can you follow the baseboards?

Klipsch is easy to drive. The Yamaha 2070 on sale for $999 on Amazon is a great deal right now. I have the 2060 and love it. But the 1070 can drive your speakers with ease though if you don’t need the 4 Atmos overhead speakers. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the reply. Is there a big difference between last years model 2070 vs this years 2080. don't mind paying a little if I gain a lot. The baseboard is a good Idea. My goal is to go with Atmos, Thats all I see on Netflix ,I never see DTSx

They removed some of the features I enjoy from 2060/2070 when they went to 2080 such as playing songs and seeing the artwork on the tv screen and using the remote. They force you to use the app on your phone or tablet on the 2080. On 2050/2060/2070 you can use either or. They added a dsp mode called AI that does automatic dsp adjustments on 2080 but most audiophiles don’t use dsp anyhow.

The 2070 allows separate sub adjustments for 2 subs. The 1070 can’t do that. 2070 has 140w /ch and 1070 is only 110w /ch. 2070 is a 9.2 that can run 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 but 1070 is a 7.2 that can only do 5.1.2 Atmos.

If all used with pure direct mode there likely isn't any difference you'd notice among most avrs. The DSP/RoomEQ can make them sound different from one another, tho. For hiding wires search for cable raceways.

Thanks. Great info. That helped me a lot. Since I'm a rookie would I benefit from the AI DSP mode?

Is the DSP/roomEQ a waste and not worth the $300 difference between the two receivers? Just trying to make the right choices

Some find DSP/RoomEQ distasteful. Some find it quite useful. I don't know which way you might feel about it but you can always not use it, but each of the avr brands have their own flavor of a room EQ program. Yamaha has its proprietary YPAO; Onkyo dumped Audyssey for cost savings a few years ago and went with their own AccuEQ and seems after Onkyo combining with Pioneer have incorporated some of Pioneer's MCACC now into AccuEQ (original version of AccuEQ was not particularly well regarded). Denon and Marantz use Audyssey. Personally last time I went avr shopping went with Denon 4520 partially because it had Audyssey XT32/SubEQ features and could use the Audyssey Pro kit should I want to go in that direction; I still have the Audyssey XT equipped Onkyo avr I had been using before that (also have an older Denon 3808 and an even older pre-hdmi Sony). Current Denons are a bit more useful with the app that can tweak Audyssey. The dsp features (such as Dolby or DTS sound mode/upmixers) many share, but some have their own choices beyond that to replicate specific venues, that sort of thing.

Generally I'd say get the avr brand/model that suits your purposes (connectivity, features, power, impedance handling) at a price you like. Might look at refurb/closeout units at accessories4less.com, too.

I would go for the 2070 on sale vs the 2080 full price. There’s no reason on any of the brands this year not to get last years model on sale.

I just got the Marantz SR7012 for a $1000 here in Canada and it sounds great.

The AI seems to be something many leave off. I don’t have experience with it though.

I turn AI on. It seems an improvement to me. I do not use any DSP's, and use surround decoding. I used Madmax Fury Road for my initial comparisons and continued to use that configuration for all movies going forward so far.

I wouldnt base any purchase on ARC or any variant. If you need streaming, buy a seperate set top box to cover that.

I plan on streaming a lot. Everett, what is a separate top box?
Like the nvidia sheild and others. Way more reliable and serves every audio and video codec. I still have old WD live boxes in the non HT rooms. If your gonna pay for premium components, adding a seperate STB for streaming apps and home server, couple hundred is nothing for superior reliability and more options.

Is Yamaha that much more superior than Denon as far as sound? I have been reading a lot of reviews its a mixed bag. I just want it too sound good..I have spent more time researching a AVS receiver then I did buying a new truck LOL I hooked up my old Onkyo 708 last night its only 1080 p it was activating a little funny on my 4K TV. I received my speakers yesterday I ordered the RP280 and RP450c front, when I open up the boxes they were RP 8000's and RP504c at the same cost $1095 for all, I was surprised. All the new features coming out, I almost want to wait for a receiver that has it all. The main reason why I started to look at the Denon x4500H because it has eARC and IMAX but my $3000 Tv doesn't have the eARC , not sure if it could be added in a firmware update its a LG C8 65 inch. Im still trying to decide on a Receiver that I will be happy with

Ya there is always a new feature but those 2 I doubt will mean much.

The Yamaha is great and so is Denon. Marantz is the same company as Denon.

My regular ARC and HDMI2.0 CEC works great on my Yamaha 2060 with my Samsung UHD KS8000 and Sony x800 UHD and Apple 4K TV.

My last Yamaha was the 2003 RXV3300 and my friend is using it in his home theater now. It is over 15 years old and still going strong.
