My surround left speaker is making a very loud pop when i turn off my system. My monoprice amp is connected to my Marantz preamp via the 12 v trigger. Just to experiment I reversed the polarity of the speaker wires and now the pop almost went away (very slight but still audible). However Audessey now says my speaker is out of phase. When i switched the cable back audessey likes it but i hear that same very loud pop when i turn off the system. I am afraid my speaker is going to be damaged if wire it that way. Is this an issue with the amp or do i have a bad cable? Appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks.

Did it pop If you turn it off manually before you turn off the Marantz? The more info we get the better chance we can narrow things down.

Yes it does pop when I turn off the amp manually as well. Its very puzzling that when i flip the speaker wire to out of phase the issue is not that bad.

I did. They said it could be a ground issue and that they would replace the amp. But now i have to be without an amp for 2 weeks or more. :)
What, no spares? This is when an avr used as pre-pro might be an advantage....

It could be two weeks or they could be over promising. ATI Amps have protection circuits to prevent startup and power down pops.

Why would that be a troubleshooting step?

I think that's why they told you it might be a grounding issue. What model is it? If it is a Monolith, the newer versions have balanced inputs that you can also try, assuming your Marantz is a prepro that has balanced outputs.

In any case, it would be wise to get a replacement. Are they paying for shipping?
