Use player vs AV pre video processing?

How do you decide whether to use the video/audio processor of the player vs the processor on the the AVR/pre/pro? As an example, if i had the Panasonic UB 900 connected to marantz 7704, should i display the processed output from the Panasonic (i.e. no processing done on the marantz) or should i send the signal from the panasonic to the marantz for processing and display that ouput?

I never even consider using the video processing in the avr or any player (maybe if I had an Oppo with Darbee video tech, since I'd probably have bought it specifically for that reason, altho never did), I rely on my displays for that. I'd think your display is just fine for processing signal (and may have more options for fine tuning). I think of video processing in an avr useful for old legacy equipment (like composite or S-video connections but don't use such myself). What do you use for a display? Are you talking about specifically upscaling a signal or actual video processing/adjustments?

I have a Sony XBR75X940D for the display. I was thinking (perhaps incorrectly) that either the player or the AV processor has a "better" processor (and therefore creates a better output to the sony). if the AV processor is better, then i want to send that output to the sony. if the player had better processor, i send that output to the sony.

I've got a BDP-103D in my home theater system hooked up to a Samsung UN55KS8000. I use the processor in the Oppo and do not use the processor in the display. Darbee is very nice. I've found having it set at 35% gives excellent results for both DVD's and Blu-rays. All my equipment was purchsed at the same time. And as you said above, I never intended to use the processor in the display. On the other hand, I run the audio out of the Oppo to my Anthem receiver via HDMI and use the DAC in the Anthem to process the audio.

Doubt it. I'd use the display's processing unless you need some sort of legacy connection the tv doesn't support.
