You’re a good man.
I agree. The 35lb jbls were not as elegant but for a looooong time, I didn’t care. They image sooo good, and sound amazing. I’d still have them but it was part of the deal. The room did benefit visually though.
Just well trained after 30 yrs...lol

Yeah, compromise works, with reasonable spouses...lol.

My only real beef with my HT/music space is we kept the overlook to below open during construction and I wanted it closed off to keep sound from traveling downstairs, but of course happy wife.

That kinda limits my playback volume to 50-55 dB when she's home...whereas ideally I like it about 65dB peaking into the low 70s, especially vocals...the happy medium there, I get home about 2 hours before she does so I can have my way for a little bit.

... Definitely would do 2 subs in that space. They will see all of the available airspace so 2 should be good for around 6db extra and help smooth it out as mentioned. ...
If I am not mistaken, that 6 db happens when the two subs are collocated otherwise only 3 dB.

My memory doesn’t always serve me that same way it once did, but I don’t recall that they need to be co-located. I think it’s more dependent on the room, and sub location, but like I said, that’s coming out of my moldy brain cell so...

May want to read the first few posts here:
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/155-diy-speakers-subs/1368397-question-about-spl-adding-speakers.html

Speakers/driver collocated less than 1/4 wave length. Same as if they had amps in each cabinet, powered sub; 3 dB for doubling the driver and 3 db for doubling the power which in the discussed case in the link, two drivers parallel wired and amp delivering twice the power at resistance is halved.
Separate the speakers such as left and right side across the walls, greater than the 1/4 wave, only 3 dB.

I will see if there are better explanations.

AVS also told me dual front corner placement was a terrible idea but it worked out dang good in my room. They have an unofficial bible over there of dos and donts, but i think most of them have lost the a ability to just play around and experiment.

I seldom have the patience to sift through the 1000 page posts on AVS. Every once in a while I do if I’m researching something specific.

When you buy direct from the manufacturer, and they suggest..."you can start out with X position but play around with positions the best you can for the best result for your space"...that tells me there's not a hard and fast rule of thumb in sub placement.

Yup. Rooms are different, subwoofer placements are different, and listening positions are different. There can be an infinite number of different combinations. Experimentation is the best way to find out the best placement.

I think if I remember correctly I read an excellent article on data-bass where they actually did in room situations and found just what you said the boost you got would vary due to room interaction and they found it would even vary at different frequencies because of nodes nulls etc etc. Best of luck to you on your theater room and thanks for your help earlier!

Possibly. I have had a few cats here and not even ONE looked at them funny so... I think they’re too big to appeal that way, but every cat is different I guess.
Forgot to mention. Usually if cats have an appropriate scratcher in a place that they can claim(even just a little one) they don’t tend to scratch on things they shouldn’t. I have a couple ares in the House with scratchers for the cat(Sully) and he is really good about using only them. Just a couple more cents...

Ya I buy terry cloth couches and chairs because the cats get feisty and try to scratch sometimes. This hides the marks well. They have scratch posts and cat condos but they have a feisty mood sometimes. :)
