Advise on speakers for Denon AVR-X1500 or 2500

Please advise on speakers for these receivers which are 500 to 650 USD prices.

Either

A. 5.1 speaker kit since i already have two old book shelf speakers that i can use

B. Dolby front speaker, two speaker in one body. Normal Front and one speaker facing ceiling to bounce off souce as front height speaker (than real speaker at ceiling height)

A better question is probably what are you willing to spend? I spent more on speakers than receiver by a long shot.

Questions that will help people help you. What is the size of the room? Do you already have a sub or do you need that too? If you want atmos, are in-ceiling speakers an option?

Another question is, for that budget, why not get the $599 AVR-X3400H, brand new with warranty?

That AVR will give you a little more flexibility in choosing your speakers.

It is to be used with 55 inches samsung ua55mu6300 tv. Room 18 by 8 foot. View distance 6 foot.

On initial thinking, i perfer not to put speaker on ceiling. Not looking good, too much work, not much title has atmos.

Main use is for netflix. Netflix, at least in my area, even at highest price uhd plan, i just check movie Gravity, which wikipedia says has dobly atmos. It only has 5.1 on netflix here. May be, they do not have it for cost or bandwidth reasons.

Will hulu or others, better in sound?

If you are looking for a loose, general rule. I would put $1200 (two times the cost of your AVR) as the minimum you should invest in your L&R speakers. Another $600 minimum for the subwoofer. Your center should match the L&R, so you do not really get to control the cost unless the manufacturer gives you options.
The surround speakers depend on your preferences and expectations. Some people will buy surrounds that match (and cost as much as) their front speakers. Others are much less demanding and will get lessor speakers for the surrounds.

However telling us "$600 AVR" is practically worthless!
Right now, that could be a Denon AVR-X3400H (great deal on last years model - MSRP was $999) or a Denon AVR-X1500H (this year's model, but two series below the 3400 - not a very good deal).
If you told us your total budget and what items you would purchase with it, we could better answer your question.
Have you already bought the AVR? If not, the Denon 3400 for $600 is hard to beat!

My initial thorgh was HTiB level. Not demanding. 55 inches entry level 4k tv. Room 20 foot wide, 10 foot deep with 6 foot view distance to tv.

Initial idea was Onkyo ht-s7800, 7.2 system at 850 USD for a complete system, receiver, 7 speakers (5 pieces, normal front and front ceiling facing in one unit, dolby atmos type) and sub woofer.

On reading user manual, denon looks better. Linux os and four dsp chips. So, need to find speakers.

Denon reveiver has modern high tech dsp calibration and, in theory, will compensate, to an extend, for non ideal speakers.

Speaker is intetesting expensive. Old tech. Material cost is not much. Magnet, coil, box, etc. I may be wrong, but, not really prepare to spend too much on speaker. Yes, it is factual that top speaker same cost as car....

$850 whole system, you should forget about current Denon models and focus on craigslist finds.
I doubt that $100-150 would be sufficient for hdmi2.0/hdpc 2.2 model, but getting HDMI 1.3 model is very possible. If you care about 4k, you could separate audio and video paths.
Speakers wise, that should leave you with $700 for speakers. I'd recommend Sony Core bookshelves and center. Often on sale at $118 [ pair of bookshelves and same $118 for a single center speaker]

Leaves a bit under $400 for a sub. Your (approx) 1600~2000 cuft room is not too big, so you could probably get away with a smaller, but very potent VTF-1 MK3 sub.

First, it is not a fact that top sounding speakers have to cost as much as a car. You can get a lot of good performing speakers that cost several hundred dollars to several Grand. As a matter of fact, several expensive speakers don't sound much better or even any better than more reasonably priced ones. Don't forget that you pay for the cabinet design and finish as well as the brand name.

I wouldn't risk a cent on an unknown Chinese made speaker brand. However, you can get a good deal on Monoprice speakers, and on speakers from Parts-Express at reasonable prices. Most of these speakers sold by those firms selling at the cheaper prices are manufactured in China or another Asian country but under a certain quality control. You can definitely rely more on these products.

No, the Denon receiver will not compensate for poor speakers but there are very good speakers available for far less than the cost of a car. Speakers are what largely define the quality of audio, not the electronics. If you want to look at inexpensive speakers I'd still stay away from HTIB bundles of avr/player/speakers in general. If you want to try an inexpensive set of speakers to go with the Denon try this Dayton set

If you are researching speakers before you buy, such that you are comparing speakers that are known to be good in their price class, you will generally see a substantial improvement with cost up to a point. However, after a point you can get into some "boutique brands" that depend on your believing you are getting a better product by spending more.
I would not have to look far to find a poorly designed $1000 pair of speakers which cannot keep up with the well-designed $200 Philharmonic AA's!

DSP cannot make crappy speakers sound like good speakers. The speakers are the single aspect of your system that are most responsible for how that system sounds.
