Looking for a good budget 7.1 receiver for a 5.1.2 setup. Been looking at Denon s730h, x2400h, and someone suggested the x1400h. But I'm still thinking about the Sony Str DN1080. I'm trying to get everything from Best Buy so I can use my card and not pay all at once. But the thing is that Best Buy is out of stock on the x1400, x2400 and even the x3400. I have heard talk about Onyko and Yamaha but haven't really looked into them. I'm new to this and it's kind of overwhelming to me. Can I get info on some good receivers in that 500$ maybe 600$ price range?

Best buy looks over priced. They had the Denon x3400 listed for 1000, its 599 everywhere else right now. BB also lists the 2400 at 759, but its 499 in places like amazon.

Yeah I seen that but they do price match so that can probably be adjusted. The only problem is that I wanna use my BB card and not pay all at once and the x3400, x2400, and s730h are not in stock. So I'm leaning towards the Sony dn1080.

They should honor the price match. The Sony might not be as much fun as the Denon x3400.

What speakers are you doing? Do you have a sub?

What do you mean not as fun? I'm thinking about going with the Polk Audio Signature Series bookshelf speakers. The S15's for left and right, S35 center, and S10's for LS/RS and more 2 more for Atmos. And a Polk PWS 10" active sub.

Oh just that many here are very excited about those recently. Especially at the sale price. :)

What’s your budget and the size of the room? One of the most fun upgrades is actually the sub so was going to point you toward some options if you wanted advice. The Polk subs are pretty underwhelming.

Advice is definitely what I am here for. Just keep in mind that this is new to me and I'm starting from nothing. I'm not trying jump in the deep in straight out the gate. I don't mind playing in the shallow water and then maybe moving deeper later on. My room is small L=16ft W=11ft 4in H=10ft. Budget around 1000$-1200$

Best Buy carries Yamaha, I would suggest U check out the RX-A780BL...

Just my $0.02... ;)

Well the sub doesn’t need to be the same brand as the other speakers. Is this a house where you can be loud or a condo where you can’t really open up a subwoofer? There are lots of people here to give suggestions but I get you are just starting out. Do you have to buy this all at Best Buy? The HSU VTF1 MK3 would be much better than what you are looking at from Polk. Best Buy looks like they carry the SVS PB1000 though.

I got a Yamaha A770 on Amazon for my bedroom for $399. I have the Canton Vento 820.2 bookshelf speakers. Just $720/pr at Accessories for Less. Sub is a Rythmik L12. Sounds amazing in that room. :)

I can be loud if I want too. But it's a small room so I'm it's not gonna take much too fill it. Why do you think the MK3 would be better than Polk(just trying to understand)?

400$ for a sub....Yikes! Lol that out of my price point at this moment. But thanks for the feedback. Do you have any receiver recommendations?
I have the Onkyo RZ820, currently on sale everywhere for $599. Really nice AVR. The 720 and 620 might still be available at $100 less for each respectively.

As for the sub, the Polk you're looking at is pretty useless. It doesn't have any usable output below 40hz. If you have to compromise somewhere, skip the surrounds or height or both in order to get a decent sub.

Thanks....So what should be looking for when it comes to Subs? Just when I think I'm getting things figured out something comes along and confuses me lol. But I'm here to learn and take advice.

If you need to get a 200 buck sub for now, Polks 505 isn’t bad it’s good for music. I had two back in the day, but around 4 Benjamin is about where good Quality starts for subs. Check out Monoprice they have decent subs for not a lot of coin. I know spending 1K or more on a sub is ridiculous in my book, some of the guys in here have subs that cost what a good used car would go for. But hey it’s their hobby so who am I to say.

I think I'm gonna just get the SVS SB1000.
