Denon AVR-X4400H clicks and pops when off in standby mode.

I am currently using a Denon AVR-X44H receiver. I have noticed random clicks and pops that sometimes come from the front left, right, or center channel when the receiver is turned off with the passthru on. I know there is minimal current passing thru the amp when it is in standby mode. Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing these noises? It doesn't seem to occur when the receiver is on.

Explain "passthru" to me. Are you using external amps? Are your speakers powered?

In all seriousness, I wonder if there are slight surges in your power service. Probably something to do with the transformer, or crappy service that gets frequent spikes. How often does it happen?

Passthru is simply when the receiver is passing thru video signals via HDMI when it is turned off. No external amps. Speakers are standard 4 ohm (not powered). I have never noticed this phenomenon with any other receiver I have used.

It occurs at random, sometimes 1 little click or pop in an hour. It never occurs often. The receiver is plugged into a computer battery back ups/surge protector so the electric should be fine.

I guess I'm going to have to live with it. It's such a random thing. I might try turning the passthru off to see if the noise still occurs.

Have you talked to Denon? Don't these things have 3 year warranties?
