Question on Anthem MRX 1120 and power cleaners

I just picked up an Anthem MRX 1120 and hooked it up 2 nights ago. I have a Panamax power cleaner that I have my Anthem, HDTV, PS3 and WDTV etc plugged into. My previous receiver was a Denon and worked with that Panamax for years without any trouble.

Now I read on some forum that escapes me that with the Anthem receivers I should not use power cleaners. It was intimated that Anthem states it should be avoided. However I looked over the manual and I could find nothing on that. Maybe I overlooked it.

So is anyone aware of any reason a power cleaner would be bad for a receiver? Specifically the Anthem 1120? Ive been playing it for 2 nights now and I dont hear anything out of the ordinary. Its dead silent between songs etc. No noise or anything. What am I missing? Thanks.

I doubt you need your power "cleaned"....assume you mean power conditioner? As long as it doesn't restrict juice to the amp they're probably harmless enough. Never had the need for one....have decent power where I've lived over the years. Where do you live where you have "dirty" power?

Depending on the manufacturers/models, they may be concerned with a couple of things, such as current limiting depending on the design, nuisance protective device tripping, fuse blowing, and even just cya to some extent.:D I bet they will be fine with the Panamax models (many dealers use them) but you should email them to get yourself covered in case you have to warranty even for things totally unrelated.

Lovinthehd I’ve seen them referred as both cleaner and conditioner;) I live in an older building with crappy wiring. When I first hooked up the Panamax to my Denon system the sound improved a good deal. It wasn’t a placebo. The music was clearer and felt more full bodied if that makes sense. I can try the Anthem with and without the Panamax in the mix and see if the same holds true this time around.

Peng that sounds very logical. I did not consider the effect on the amp etc. I will email them and see what their reply is.

I'd need a demonstration of such improvement personally. Clearer and more full bodied could easily be what people hear with magical cables....YMMV. Then again maybe I've just not lived in such a place....altho I have lived in some old buildings with questionable wiring :)

Haha. I’m starting to sound like audiosnob:eek::D:D

I don’t know any other way to describe the difference I heard. It definitely sounded better to me and this was years ago before the audiophile infection took hold:p

Many people go through that stage of being more Placebo prone period.. So just starting, that's normal, only time will tell if it could get worse and become permanent, or it would be cured after spending thousands of dollars, eventually.....

As an electrical engineer, I simply cannot fathem what some sales people tell their customers. Unless the power conditioner limits power delivery, there is no ill affect of using them. Stay away from the audiophile receptacles that magically clean up the power. Thats pure and utter BS.

:) I got that Panamax at a steal so couldn’t pass it up. Sites like this and using some common sense probably helped me not become a full blown case of audiophilitis.

Thanks for that 3db. I’ll still send an email like Peng suggested just to hear what their reasoning is.
