Another which Sub thread

Just bought the Polk T-series (T50s, T30, T15s). Now looking for a subwoofer. My budget is around $200, but can go a bit higher for the right performance/value (value is huge for me). The room is part of my basement around 15’ X 14’, ceiling is about 7’10”. I will primarily be using it for TV, movies, and games. It being black is probably the only appearance requirement. I am looking to purchase in the next few months but can strike fast for the right deal. I would also like to mention that I would like to upgrade to 2 subs in the future (shshshs, don’t tell my wife).

Here are some of the subs I have been checking out online:

• Polk PSW108 - $125
• Dayton SUB-1200 - $148
• Monoprice 9723 - $90
• Polk PSW505 - $200
• BIC America H-100II - $250
• BIC America F12 - $220

Any insight and suggestions of other subs is appreciated. Again I am all about value.

Thanks for the suggestion, but why would you recommend this iver some of the other subs? Is bigger always better?

15" will not go deeper than the 12" Dayton, but it will have much more output. For a room that size, the 12" is probably fine, however a square or nearly square room is harder to get good bass in, especially if placement choices are limited.

There's an old saying there's no replacement for displacement; yes in a general way larger drivers (and boxes) are better for subs. You already had the SUB1200 and the price was within your budget so I thought you should consider it. Dayton does spec the 1500 2hz lower than the 1200 fwiw.

Return the surrounds, up your budget by 150, and add the surround return to it. I'd take a good 3.1 over a so so 5.1. The .1 for movies IMHO needs the most attention.
