Are you talking about the tape loop? Or the main? Here is a link to the back panel which shows both

i see now, my other rec. are not labled front, above pre ins and out main pre amp, i am hooking eq to
usually pre in/pre out are seperat from front/center or rear channels, going to an eq. wich do i use for correct audio? just use patch cords wher pins are in illistation, mine are missing, why does the main side not say pre in?
all my other rec. have a seperate section,, for pre in/pre out, want to be strait before i start, cant find a used manual or even a pdf for tis old thing new old stock, so to say

Without knowing what EQ it is, it should work using the mains out or the tape monitor. What are you EQing?

just an equlizer to the rec. all my other rec. are hooked in this way, pre out to pre in on eq. pre in to pre out, using' both pre in and outs, i know how to do this, just was unsure on r-500, as it does not have the centerally located area, labled pre in/ pre out, insteadit seems to be located within front speaker rca out and main in, just never saw it this way, usually i can hook up my eq's and front center/rear are still avalable for speakers or linking amp's ect, but i will go by this pic. i downloaed from you thanks, i usually have much higher end equipment, with more internal amps and outlets, think this should hook me up

Let me rephrase, what frequencies are you going to EQ?

i shall equlize a broad spectrem, as i do on the rest of my rec, car unit ect. this makes no diff. all manuals tell you, pre out pre in on rec. and eq. ar the pre amp to link eq.'s or other devices, now i'm getting confused, this will be a simple, rec. pre out/in equlizer link like most, like all i've ever done in 64 years, just the pins were gone, and instead of pre in, it says main in, as on all i've seen says pre in/ pre out, now that i see cplg. jumper pins on this download, this is always the location i use on other units, surley it's the same

Ok, I thought you might have measured your systems response and were eqing the troubled areas.
