Where Should I Spend My Money?

I have about $5000 to either buy the Sony 4K VW285ES projector or I could buy the Epson 5040B for $2100 and spend the rest on upgrading my B&W Cm8 Speakers to the B&W 703 S2. Where would you put your money. Should I get the nicer projector and stick with the CM8 or get the Epson 5040B which isn't a bad projector at all and upgrade my speakers?

Epson (1080p) says that they support HDR and if so, it may be sufficient - the extra resolution may or may not be even visible from your normal viewing distance:

After projector, I'd put the money towards speakers, not necessarily B&W 703 S2 - I think for same/less money you could better speakers.

Thank you for your inputs! I currently have the B&W CM8 and I really like the way it sounds. Thats the reason why I figure I move up to the B&W 703. Do you have any other suggestions that I should look at?

You're gonna hate my answer - It depends :)
Same money gets what I consider nearly(*) absolutely best possible speaker money could buy:
http://philharmonicaudio.com/phil3.html
Other also awesome options include:
http://www.salksound.com/model.php?model=Song3
http://www.salksound.com/model.php?model=Veracity+HT1-TL
http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/SRT/srt.html with an optional RAAL tweeter.

(*) - way above your budget, but still could be considered cheap vs 25 and 100k speakers - these are by far best speakers I ever heard in person:

Thank you! I've never heard of these speakers but I'm gonna definitely look at them.

If you are looking for a projector upgrade, AVS has the RS420/DLA570 for about $2,000 for B-stock right now I believe. This is, IMO, the best deal going right now. It will do a better job overall than the Epson for sure, and is priced to sell.

How far from the screen and what size screen are you using in your theater setup? That may impact my recommendation.

I can give a two thumbs up second vote to the philharmonic choice or the salk choice.
I am a Salk owner and happy as can be.
For my next project, I'll also become a Philharmonic owner if I ever get that far.
Dennis Murphy did the design/crossovers on both lines so he is the glue that makes them go.

I would not suggest a change in either until I knew more about the application.

If the OP is using the system 100% for movies and/or gaming, the current speakers are fine and I would concentrate on video image quality and size, room treatments, subwoofers, Dirac or REW, and amps.

If the system is primarily 2.1 channel music, then it makes sense to upgrade the main L-R speakers and better integrate a sub.

I pulled the triggered and upgraded everything! On Friday I went into Best Buy and purchase $14000 with of Audio and Video gears. Here's what I left with: Sony 4k 285, Marantz SR7012, 1 pair B&W 702, 1 pair CWM 663, and 2 pairs of CCM 664. Thank you guys for all your suggestion but I decided to go with the B&W because the sound quality is good enough for me and also I think it's one of the best looking speaking. I guess you can say a way a speaker looks is a little more important to me than the way it sound.

What sub/s are you using?

Currently I have 1 SVS SP-2000. The older model. I am debating to either buy another SP-2000 to have a dual sub system or try and sell my old sub and get a bigger sub. I also heard Ported subs are better for movies. Which my system is 70% for movies and 30% for audio.

You mean SB2000?

Since money isn't an issue, look to getting one or two SVS PB4000 or PB16 Ultra. You don't know low frequency effects yet, but with those you certainly will.

Generally speaking ported subs are considered better, but depending on the room, and the sub, a sealed sub can be equal or better. You definitely would have been better off with PB than SB for movies. If you like the size sealed there’s are plenty of great options.

Yes, I'm sorry I did mean SB-2000. Money is ALWAYS an issues. Wish I can say it isn't lol. I did looked at the PB4000 but the darn thing is huge! My room is 14x20. It maybe little too big for my room.
