I cannot say I have heard Audyssey DSX since I own Yamaha however it appears to be a proprietry upmixer similar to DTS Neural X and DSU (Dolby Surround upmixer). The point of the latter two is to create faux object data steering out of older formats for the heights.
If you have Denon or Marantz receiver capable of DTS Neural X then it likely does Atmos, DTS:X and Auro3D Audio as well. If it is an older receiver, pre Atmos/Dts X/Auro then your planned use of Bi-poles is likely fine it will probably not have any impact either way. I would still recommend the original use as surround duties however as you suggest, it may work well enough for the heights. You may wish to reconsider this if an upgrade is in the offing down the line.
