Seriously, I have no life.
Make sure the cable has only a tip and sleeve connection (mono cord), not tip, ring and sleeve (stereo cord). Sometimes, the connection on the jack lands on the plastic spacer between the ring and sleeve, making no connection.

How are you trying to control the Marantz- IR emitter from a remote control's RF unit, or something like a Zantec/Proficient/Russound IR repeater?

Bumping this as I have a similar question regarding my Marantz NR1403. It has a 3.5mm input on the rear for "Flasher" but the spec sheet specifically lists
"Flasher In/IR Receiver In/Emitter out -- 1 /
/
"

Which tells me that a flasher is not an IR receiver. If not an IR receiver, what IS a flasher?

Or can I use the orange "Remote Control In?" It's a coax RCA and every IR receiver I've seen uses a 3.5mm plug...

An IR flasher is placed placed over the ir sensor on a component. What is it your wanting to accomplish?

I just want to move the unit into a cabinet, and thought I might be able to avoid using an IR repeater/blaster (and it's power cord) over the units IR receiver by just hardwiring it in.

Not knowing your other equipment, I'd recommend using a seperate ir kit as they are more dependable and if you need an ir receiver, that's your only option.

Minimal other equipment:
- An AppleTV that can stay out of the cabinet (dedicated IR remote and iPhone/wifi remote)
- A BenQ projector that is also out of the cabinet and not 12V triggered by the receiver or anything else
- no universal remotes, just the stock dedicated remotes
- APC power conditioner that will also go in the cabinet
- small polk powered subwoofer and home-made bookshelf 5 channel system

So really, I just need the Marantz to get an IR signal from its standard remote while in a cabinet, and would like to avoid using up my minimal 120V outlets for a power supply for a repeater.

Your gonna need the seperate unit as you need the ir receiver.
