Connecting Overhead Speakers

Hi All,

Moving into a new condo that has overhead speakers which hook into an outdated Apple 30pin wall mount. I can connect via a receiver in a closet, but I'm hoping to replace the wall unit given it is outdated. Ideally I would like to be able to connect via bluetooth/wireless. I'm not looking to hook this into the TV or larger audio system. Few questions:

1) What is the simplest way to replace the wall unit and keep everything clean / covered? Is there an "off the shelf" solution here? (bluetooth switch?)

2) Do I need to do anything with the speaker wire that is currently hooked into the closet receiver?

That’s confusing. Connect what exactly? Things connect to a receiver, not via a receiver.

Basically, there isn’t enough information here. It’s hard to believe the Apple thing is connected directly to the speakers, as that would require an amplifier somewhere. So is the Apple thing connected to the closet receiver?

Hi - glad I'm in the beginners group. Yes it is connected to an amplifier in a closet (picture below). Basically I'd like to figure out a way to replace the non-useable apple 30pin wall unit with something bluetooth or wireless. I guess i will always need the amplifier?

It appears the speaker wire (multiple rooms and connection to the apply item run into this closet)

Your best solution is to use Chromecast Audio.

You will need a cable like this to connect the Chromecast device to that old Sony receiver.

Forget the old Apple hook up. You can then cast from most mobile devices. That is your best easiest and cheapest solution.

If Bluetooth / wireless is all you want, TLS’s recommendation will get you there, using Chromecast or something similar. It doesn’t require replacing the 30-pin thing on the wall.

Yes, you will always need the amplifier. The speakers have to be powered by something.

Wayne- interested to hear what else you think would be an option? Looking for some expert advice. What would be your choice of what to do (maybe like a 6 or 7 on the complexity/cost scale)

Sometimes the stars align. It so happens this is a case where the "keep it simple stupid" solution provides not only the cheapest means to the end, but the best and simplest.

Hopefully TLS's advice will work for you. I'm not a streamer, so I have none to offer.
