When I clicked on the Axios cable ad above + a side story

1st let me say, I'm not trying to Slander Axios Cables in anyway. Nothing like buying something made in the USA. If they can sell em, all the more power to em. Though, I'd be curious to know how many sales are. So, I saw a 5 meter head phone cable for 1300 bucks. This sounds a bit crazy to me. That must be some very special copper inside that wire. Or maybe solid GOLDDDDDD. ohhhhhhh. Would an audible difference be present in a cable like Axios? my guess, probably not, better built and stronger - probably.

Side story: A friend came-over a couple weeks ago and say the new BMRs:

He says, "dude, ya got more speakers?! Jesus Christ. Why do you need more? How much you spend of these?!"

I say, "A good bit, they we're affordable for what you get."

He looks, up the price and says, "holly [smokes], why ya spending all this money on this [smokes]."

I then prominently assert "LISTEN, THE QUEST FOR HIGH-FI SOUND WILL NEVER END. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF MY JOURNEY!"

Then he said, "Damn, you really are serious about this [smokes]" ....... OH YA

Long story short, It seems like most people really don't care about HiFi sound. Cheers to all of you Alcoholics out there.

Lots of us have hobbies outside of HiFi or whatever you want to call what all of us here do. Lots of people don't care about them either.

I'm also a big car guy. Most people I know (including guys on here) view them as a means to get from point A to point B. Nothing more. That makes no sense to me at all. They don't want to enjoy driving? Don't want to go outside in the morning and say "damn that's nice"? I don't get it. I'm actually going to visit my best friend soon so we can drive some of his toys (new Z06 is calling my name). We're the only two out of our circle that are that into cars. He doesn't care much about audio at all. Go figure.

I'm into wood working (not a master by any means, but I get by). I have a good friend that is as well. He's MUCH better than I am and I've learned a lot from him, but he doesn't care much about cars. He is into audio, but only to the point he wants decent 2.1 for his living room. He has a decent system too.

It's interesting to me how different people are and where their interest lie. I love to read tons of different books, some thing reading is dumb (that one kills me). Some are WAY into their phones. I am to an extent, but I'm not going to go out and buy the next best thing every time one comes out.

Some are WAY into themselves (instagram, facebook, twitter, and all that) and I don't care one bit about any of it. That one really confuses me. Caring how many likes a facebook post gets. Why?

I digress.

I also agree that some people just don't get what we do or why. It is actually pretty easy to show them why when I put on an Atmos demo in my theater. Once they pick up their jaw they get it. Maybe not the monetary aspect, but they get it as far as the sound is concerned.

Well have fun with that new Z06 and be safe out there. I've converted one of my friends. He's considering upgrading from his TV's speakers to an AVR and bookshelves. I totally get what your saying and yes yes yes to the Facebook point.

What ads above? I see buttons/links for RBH, BlueJeansCable, SVS, Martin Logan and CEDIA Training and they're below...am surprised silly cables would have ads here, tho. I briefly looked up Axios (which apparently is a Greek word for "I am Worthy, lol).

Most people I know aren't into audio, let alone how much money I've spent let alone the time with and on it...but then most people don't get my other passion, cycling (which I spend even more time and money on :) ).

Used to be more into cars, but too big a money pit now....and just don't care that much beyond basic transportation of stuff. I drive my van most of the time (which has racks for 14 bicycles on it :) ).

I enjoyed this post. It sounds a lot like me. Of the friends I have that are into audio, they’re not nearly as obsessive and like you said, most just want “good” sound. I think that’s ok albeit disappointing since I know that (for me) a little bit of effort can bring a system from good to really damn good. However these days convenience is king, and people have gotten lazy and as you eluded to elsewhere, very self absorbed. I mean, why would you spend the time to stop and listen to a great recording after properly setting up your system when you can shamelessly promote yourself all over the internet with pics of your big fat a$$ doing stuff nobody cares about anyways.
Fwiw, I don’t have Facebook, and I got Instagram for the photo filters way before it was a thing. Only 5 posts lol.
I also don’t get the A to B car thing. Frustrating actually. I grew up at our semi famous racetrack and have loved cars my whole life. My first car is a 1969 pro-touring Camaro that I bought in 1994 and I will die before I give that up. I say life is about the drive, enjoy it. And yeah, how about pride of ownership. I do like to go outside and say “damn that’s nice”. Btw, I’m kinda jelly about the Z06 thing. What a ride! How bout a new Z-L1? Or Z-R1? Damn...

Yeah, that Camaro would never leave me if I had one. My friend's Z06 is going to be interesting. I've never driven anything with that much power. I'm going to ask if he'll trade it for a ZR-1, but I know the answer. He doesn't think anything that has push rods should be called a ZR-1, but that's another discussion.

That's umm....a lot of bikes.
It's a big van, one rack died in an argument with a tree, used to be 15 total, but someone's gotta drive anyways. I have it because I used to be a partner in a mtn bike shuttle business, and still do so part-time for another outfit (but usually drive the company vans except for just friends or helping out on a trail work crew). It's also my camp-mobile.

That ZR-1 the new 200mph+ version I saw on Leno's Garage?
Yup. Crazy fast car. My friend got something like $25k off the Z06 when he bought it. Not sure if the dealer wanted to get rid of it or what so I think the MSRP of the ZR-1 would be a bit much to convince his wife that getting one is a good idea.

Wow, guess I was gone a couple days...
Haha that’s funny. I suppose he’s a fan of the c4 Zr-1?(not that great imo). FWIW I believe the crummy old pushrod zr1 is the same one that beat fords super over priced GT?(Virginia raceway???) I think the new Vettes are amazing, but I’m an F-body guy and for all that money I’d probably tune up a z-l1.
Love to hear about your time with that Z06!!!

I'll let you know after I go visit. FWIW the old ZR-1 was an overhead cam motor. The first (only) for a corvette IIRC.

This is correct. But the first zr1(C3) had a pushrod lt1 iirc. Anyway, hope you have fun. I think I need to cook some rubber myself!!!

I have a friend who worked for GM at the Desert Proving Ground and one day, he was pulled over while he drove home. The officer asked for his ID and he handed it over, with his high speed driving certification card on the other side of his wallet. When the officer came back, he asked why he had the certification and after he explained, was asked if he had been driving fast on that day, and how fast. He wad been doing some testing on a ZR-1 (this was before it was released for sale) and he said he had been doing about 186 MPH, which is obviously the reason 95 MPH didn't seem fast to him.

Yeah, I can totally see people like him making that mistake. "I was going fast? 95? That's not fast...wait, this is a public road. Woops."

On a family trip in the late-'60s, we were passing through the Painted Desert- mom was driving, I was in the front and brother & dad were snoozing in the back. I woke up from a short nap and my mom said "I don't know about your dad- he drives so fast". I looked at the speedometer and saw that were were cooking along at 95 MPH. The highway is raised and there's nothing close by to use as any kind of reference for speed, other than the road itself and when the driver is looking forward, that doesn't help, either. I said "You know you're doing 95, right?" and she immediately took her foot off of the pedal, which woke everyone else.
