When Amazon Prime isn't Amazon Prime

There's an old Dennis the Menace skit that runs like this:

Dennis is operating a lemonade stand. $0.05 all you can drink. A customer comes up, buys a cup, drinks it, asks for a refill. Dennis quips back: For $0.05 that's all you can drink.

I'm feeling the same way with Amazon. I ordered 5 of a relatively mundane item: Wireless KB and Mouse. It only put 3 in my cart and said I had hit the limit. I call customer service and I have to wait exactly 1 week and 1 second before I become 'Eligible' again.

This is on a Prime Business Account.

Having a business account that doesn't let you bulk order makes no sense. That sounds no different from a consumer account. Have you run into this situation before?

I haven't but read where others have. Far as I can figure out is that the business account lets you input PO #'s to reference orders against.

Just got the notice that the renewal price will go from $99 to $119 next year. Why did they need to bump it up that much?

Gotta finance those movies and TV shows somehow...

I save enough money on free shipping from them that I'm not going to complain. Helps that one of my favorite shows is Prime exclusive.

Not really complaining, but both Netflix and Prime upped their prices to pay for that programming (almost certain that's what it is too) but I don't watch ALL their shows. IMO, they're going down the same rabbit hole as TV - creating a bunch of garbage content that probably 50-75% of people aren't interested in amongst their few, core, quality shows. Yes, the main benefit is shipping for Amazon, but I watch very few of their shows. I DO use Music Unlimited, which is great, but that's already an additional cost on top of Prime.

You can get pretty much free shipping from anyone now days. Amazon does deserve kudos for that. The issue for me is I'm paying for Prime shipping. When they restrict me to a single SSD, or a peripheral, you are actually not providing me what I paid for. I'm being denied that paid benefit.

Time to look at my options.

Amazon retail really isn't that profitable; they've been accepting a lower return on investment than normal market rates to build demand. I'm expecting these increases to continue. Free shipping, free videos, free music, free books... Amazon Prime is still a good buy (to me), but I think it will be less of a bargain over time.

The big Amazon profits come from Amazon Web Services, and AWS is not cheap. Not even a little, it is just really convenient, super-reliable, and has a rich set of proprietary services.

I thought the expansion of the music service was one excuse for raising Prime premium. It is still relatively a good value if you use all the services and shop frequently...

Gotta pay for the blue penis rocketships, too

I have prime, pay yearly. I also pay $7ish dollars for unlimited which adds a ton more music. As much as I enjoy the huge catalog of music, I'm irritated that I'm a prime subscriber and have to pay additional for the premium music (at least I get a small discount) I keep contemplating switching to spotify or tidal, but amazon has yet to fail me when searching for music, I swear they have everything.

I forgot you actually need to pay more for the whole music experience thing, sorry. I use Spotify and Pandora for looking for new music or just playing things according to my library/stations...Amazon isn't as convenient....

How do you like spotify? (Not to jack the thread)
Pandora was good but the quality seemed to drop big time, it's been a few years since I gave it another chance though. I should try to login and check it out again

I've got a Pandora app in several avrs/bluray players....more about convenience, am not a premium subscriber. I know it's limited bitrate/sq and that's fine but it's ability to find other/new music based on my stations is quite good, but think lately Spotify is catching up with its daily mix suggestions (in several genres to choose from, which is kind of nice). I am a premium Spotify subscriber, and also have the app on several avrs and bluray players but the recent forced conversion to Spotify Connect has changed that somewhat, but I find 320kbps quite fine for most purposes and they have a better selection of music and interface than Tidal when I tried that. Lately I got Amazon Fire Sticks in two systems so as not to worry about older devices keeping up with changes in apps....
