Need expert help on a receiver choice

Here's the bench test summary on the RZ1100....not much of a "200 wpc" amp section...and also Gibson (major stakeholder in Onkyo/Pioneer, and majority owner of Onkyo USA) has filed chapter 11 and apparently Onkyo could be cut loose so might just want to see how that sorts out, too.

I'd also stick to Marantz/Denon and Yamaha offerings. If you really want massive power then you should get an avr with pre-outs so that you have amplification options. Be nice to know just what your spl requirements are....might try using an spl calculator to get an idea of your power requirements.
I don't know what happened to Onkyo since the last time they made some of the most powerful <$2000 to $3000 range AVRs. Remember the 805, 875, 905, 906 and the equivalent Integra models? The 805 probably represents the lowest $/Watt AVR. IIRC people claimed they ran hotter than D&M's equivalence but nothing that couldn't be solved by a $20 top mounting fan.

I bet some of those TX-SR 805 (with external fan added) are still running.

The same would apply to a lot of separate power amps.
Very true. It just depends on the AVR and the power amps - lower-end models probably won't do as well as the higher-end models.

The Denon X7200 and Yamaha A3070 should have pretty good amps for people who must only have AVRs. :D

I wouldn't hesitate for one second using my Denon AVR-5308CI (339 Watts x 2Ch into 4 ohms) to power any speakers.

The older Denon AVR-4308CI outputs about the same for 4 ohms: 343 Watts x 2Ch.

I updated my AVR output (based on S&V bench tests only for consistency) comparison sheet. That should help give the OP some idea of what an AVR can do.

Yeah, definitely keeping my AVR-5308CI. :D

My 4308 only beat it in 2 channel 4 ohm marginally, actually too minute to be considered different, the 5308 is clearly the best since the 5805.

I just updated the spreadsheet again, had a typo in the 5308 dac, it should be 1796 not 1976.

Those were some of the last high powered amp Onkyo's made. My 809 is still pretty good, but nothing like an 805. From 805-806 the receiver lost a good 15 lbs IIRC. The trend continued...

I think BSA still has a working 805.

My 809 is heavier than my x4300h which has 2 extra channels...

The Denon AVP-A1 and POA-A1 combo is basically the Denon AVR-5308 on steroid (same DACs and Video Processors, but fully balanced).

Denon POA-A1HDCI Amp:

Seven channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 169.3 watts
1% distortion at 182.3 watts

Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 173.5 watts
1% distortion at 188.2 watts

Two channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 179.8 watts
1% distortion at 197.2 watts

Two channels driven continuously into 4-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 268.5 watts
1% distortion at 318 watts

Not that it matters, but just fyi Denon used the top TI DAC, the 1792 in their flag ship universal player only. At the time it was the DVD-5910, my DVD-3910 and the newer DVD-3930 also has the second tier 1796. IIRC you had the 3930, or was it the 3800? That probably had the 1796 as well.

At one point I believe I also had the DVD-5910. Then sold it. Then got the 3800 and then something else. Too many players. Too much wasted money. Been a while. :D

It seems I haven't had a BD or universal player since forever.
