How can I make my small room have better room acoustics?

My small sized room has three big windows and has a hardwood floor. I feel like I’m not getting as much out of my audio system as I could be, and was wondering how I could make my room a little more sound friendly. I have heard diffusers will not work in small rooms. Is that true?

Seriously, I have no life.

What are the room dimensions? What are the walls made of? A picture of equipment location is vital.

If the room is small you will be very much in the direct field of the speakers, as you can't get far away from them. In any event having speakers with good dispersion is better then diffusers, which in a small room will be useless.

If you room is square you are pretty much done and need to find a better space.

In my 12x11x8 room, I've found treating most of the early reflection points more helpful than not. While a larger room may impart some spaciousness in imaging, a small room will likely suffer from lots of smeared, blurry, loud reflections.

The other issue in smaller rooms, especially square smaller rooms, is lots of bass issues. Getting even bass across all seats is difficult, but not impossible. I have dual subs placed in areas where there's the least amount of room interaction at the seating area, unfortunately, the rest of the room is fairly uneven, but the seating area is more or less flat.

I agree with @TLS Guy , what are your room dimensions and a photo of where you put your equipment is in order to give the best advice.

As most regular folks on the AH know, I have a small music room. Its not only small, but its a cube : 10x10x10. The worst shape possible. But its dedicated to the purpose and I've learned to make the best out of it. Again, as TLS Guy said, speakers with wide dispersion are key as you are literally sitting inside the sound field.

Even though I have the worst room dimensions possible, for the single listening chair in the space, things sound terrific, the best sounding space I've ever had. But, it didn't happen by accident. Loads of challenges.
Let's see some specifics and maybe we can offer up some suggestions that will help.

Sorry I’m just getting back to this, but my room dimensions are 11 x 14 and I have a 7.2 set up where my surround speakers are near the ceiling. I have a rug covering most of the room floor, so the hardwood floors isn’t something that I’m worried about too much. The thing that concerns me the most is the windows. I have a normal rectangle shaped room, so the room shape isn’t a problem either. The walls are drywall.
