Surprised with lower cost Crown XLI1500

I had a problem with new subs. They are both RBH 1010SEN, and passive. Been using Definitive Tech BP-2004tl for my low end provider. Anyway, I have two Hafler xl-280 amps that manage 400 wpc in 4ohm, but they cook in my cabinet. I did not want to drill holes and add fans. I was stuck.

While surfing, I wondered on to a site called zzsounds. They had a new amp, unbalanced rca, and internal cooling. The specs for 4ohm was 450 wpc. It was 298.00. I pulled the trigger.

After install and tuning, I am shocked at the low end meat I have access to. I’m not sure how it would sound when used to power main speakers, but it can pump out the finest quality deep base. Even while testing max output, the clip indicators never showed activity. Because of the length of the wave, I go out into my garage to feel it. Dust falls from rafters. After U-571, my cats will never be the same. I have 10x more bass than I have ever had with a powered sub. It hits 900wpc bridged.

Try this amp for your sub. Awesome.

Many of us use Crown amps. Personally I use the XLS Drivecore 1500s. If you're not getting the clip indicators to show at max output you probably can turn the gain up a bit, or is the gain on the amp maxed out? Your amp should sound just fine with your mains, too.

I have the gain at 12 o’clock. I had to back everything off because of a very strange event. Once the volume reached a specific level, my entire basement room came alive. Windows, doors, ceiling and walls...Sheetrock is supposed to be quiet. The four 10” Aluminium driver’s excursion was awesome. They never bottomed out, everything involved had more to give.

Sounds like some rattle fixing in your future. I use museum type putty/blu-tac to help where possible with rattling pictures and bricabrac. Doors/windows some weather stripping maybe.

If you don't need moar... :)
