Can I build a box around my sub?

Hi guys, I was wondering if building a box around my sub and leaving the front open would affect sound quality? I have it set up next to the tv stand right now and plan on doing a sub crawl. The other locations I'm able to put it I would like to have protection on it from the kids. Im excited and hope that it's acceptable as it will be the first time doing a sub crawl and am looking forward to any improvements there might be. Even if it does affect sound quality to put a box around it, would it still be worth it if I find the right spot?

What do you want to build a box round your sub for to make it bigger? Not a good idea anyway.

You would be better of building a bigger better sub!

Lol, just to cover it from being climbed on and toys, but mainly to protect the cable connections in the back from dropped toys and feet and fingers messing with the settings, I'm afraid of busted connections in the back from an accident. I could make it with 3/4" clearance on the sides and 3" on top to have access to settings myself.

2 of the spots are near toys and play areas, that's why I'd like some extra protection.

Still not a good idea, just keep it where it is most likely?

My gear is right in the end of the only living room in the house. My grandchildren live with me and they all stay out of the 3ft zone. They are ages 3-7.

Fact of the matter is, it was the grandkids parents I had to make the point more strongly to and now everyone just stays clear out of habit.

In the mean time, until I get some proper grilles built, I cover them with a couple cheap wally world bath towels and they seemingly disappear into the room until I want to play. Then I just pull the towels back. There is an upside, in that the towels keep the dust off of everything. Redneck as all get up but I have new looking woofers all the time.
