Marantz SR6003 Center Channel Output sometimes not working

Recently my SR6003 center channel sound is outputting via the left and right speakers instead of the center channel speaker on occasion.
Using HDMI for audio and video.
On DirecTv it does this during random commercials. Regular content sound is working correctly.
On Netflix/Amazon via PlayStation4 it does this on some movies and all previews.
Example via Playstation4, Amazon move The Price of Fame won’t output via center channel, yet other movies/shows will output via center channel.
I have tried every setting from both source and AVR, checked all wiring, etc.
Should I junk it and get something more modern? Sad to do as up until recently has worked fine.

The problems may be in the source. What does it say on the receiver that the format of the source is? I have a lot of stuff on that outputs two channel and its the source. Often times they will be transmitting Dolby Digital plus, but only using two channels.

If it is changing during the course of a program then it is the receiver and yes, you need a new one.

Like TLS said, if it switches off the center regularly during any random movie/program/commercial/preview intermittently it's the avr rather than source. Your description makes it sound like it happens more selectively, as in complete but select movies/programs/commercials/previews.

You are correct in that entire movies/commercials have center switched off. Center does not turn on or off during a show.

It makes me wonder if for certain shows the signal being outputted from the source is somehow not compatible with my 6003.

Must be my 6003 is decoding certain sources. Via my PS4 Netflix the show Britannia output voice via center channel. The movie The Price of Fame outputs all sound via left and right speakers. Might reset my 6003 to see if their is a glitch. If not it’s like whoever controls the source is made this receiver sometimes obsolete.

What speaker setup do you have? You've only mentioned L/R/C speakers. Is there any pattern as to a specific format in the source such as Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital 2.0, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-MA? Are you applying sound modes? This happens with direct/pure direct as well as when having the avr decode something?

5.1 speaker set up. No pattern. No matter what mode I select or force all audio goes through L/R speakers. It must be how some content is coded and my AVR can’t decode certain streams.
The capital one commercials play correctly. Most other commercials send audio through the left and right speakers when watching DirecTV. Most movies play correctly but on occasion some movies like the price of fame on Amazon plays audio through the left and right speakers. I did a full factory reset hoping there was some sort of glitch but that didn’t help. I think that my receiver is unable to decode certain HDMI streams of audio Or it is failing

Such a specific type of failing I don't think I've read about before. You're still not being specific about the particular soundtrack format in the source and specifics of playback but if you think you've experimented with all sorts of sources and modes thru to playback then maybe your conclusion the avr's dsp is failing somehow only on center channel content is accurate. I'd imagine there is a pattern there and would have to convince myself otherwise before shopping :)

The Price of Fame on Amazon I just looked up and altho I don't want to rent it it does appear to only be a 2.0 offering (but not sure as I rarely rent from Amazon, don't know if more sound options show up after I pay). Do you have your sources set to bitstream only? Have you tried changing your sources so that they are doing any necessary decoding?

OTOH a new avr may be just the thing....
