I have a Nexis surround sound set up with a sony receiver. If I hook the sound into video one or two, I get static through all of the speakers. If I hook the sound into multi channel, its clear but only the rear speakers give sound. PLEASE help! I recently got this stuff used. Everything is in great condition. So, I'm kind of at a loss for what could be going on. Thanks in advance!

Not heard of Nexis, I see a Bose wannabe 5.1 speaker/sub setup model L-7, is this what you have? What model Sony receiver? What do you mean you're hooking sound into multi channel or video? What is the source of the sound? What kind of connectors? Hard to know what might be going wrong until we know what's going on in the first place....

You have been had. You have fallen for a well known White Van speaker scam. That is what is going on.

Looks like this is the set, and the back of the subwoofer is shown.

You should be able to drive any single speaker by itself off of any channel of your surround system using a standard speaker wire. Just put on some FM radio, or similar, and hook each speaker up one at a time to the Sony and see how it sounds.

A better source would be a CD player.

But, this is a white van scam product and if I were you I would return it immediately, though I doubt you can.

Yes, that's the one. A sony STR DE595 receiver. I have audio coming from the WII system and going into the back of the receiver. Video one and two, (the input options) give me static. but if I use the multi channel, it comes in clear but its only the rear speakers. They are the colored connectors... RCA?

The speakers all work fine. I hooked them up separately to another stereo and they are fine. I just need to know why there is static through the video one and two, even when there is no input pluged into them

Is this a new-to-you DE595? What is a WII? What are it's output options for connections? RCA composite analog stereo connections are often red and white, and if you add a video channel that's usually yellow. This is different from rca type component connections, which are video (and colored red/green/blue IIRC...it's been a while). When you plug into the multi-ch analog input are you connecting the L/R output from whatever your source is into the L/R channels of the multi-ch input? What sound mode are you playing in? Details....

Have you tried resetting the receiver to factory settings? If not, you should try it. The procedure, according to a manual I found online, is to prese the power button for five seconds. The word 'Initial' will appear in the display. This will reset the receiver to factory default.

Especially if it was a used unit, good first step to start with a clean slate (or at least as clean as possible).

I have not tried this. I will give it a go and touch back

Have you tried connecting what ever you are connecting into video into one of the other inputs? It sounds like the video poriton of the receiver is bad but audio is fine. If that is the case, if you cannot take it back, then I would just send the audio only to the receiver and video I would plug directly into the TV. This will bypass the receiver for video but all audio should work fine.

I just tried it. Still static on video 1&2, and dvd. Not on md/tape, cd/sacd, or tuner fm/am though

I just tried this and I still have the static! I don’t get it! Why is it only those three inputs that have static? Right now I have the audio hooked up through CD and it works.. but I only have the front two speakers.

I just realized. At the bottom of the receiver, if I use 2ch, there is no static. If I use A.F.D, movie, or music, there is static. What causes this?

You have a bad processor in the receiver.

How do I replace it? Where can I get the processor?
You can't. That would mean replacing the main board. That will cost far more than the receiver is worth.

So you now have a two channel receiver. If you want multi channel, then that one needs dropping off at the recycling center on your way to pick up a new one, or you can order on line.
