Petition Apple to support Dolby Atmos

I gave up on Apple years ago, too much proprietary BS, cash-grabbing politics and horrific customer support. Stopped supporting them when my 7 month old pristine condition iPhone died, and they wouldn't cover it under their 12 month warranty. What else pissed me off was all my USB cables that used to work for charging etc, no longer worked after a mysterious Apple update. That kind of stuff is horse-sh!%.

Fare enough, but the Atmos/Dolby Vision support is poor across all platforms. For example, I have an Amazon Fire TV 4K that supports Atmos but not Dolby Vision. On top of that, there are ZERO apps available for it that offer Atmos because even though Netflix offers the tech, it does not support it on Amazon's app.

I'm about to pick up an XBOX One X which supports Atmos but again, no Dolby Vison.

I have the Apple Tv 4k which as far as stand alone streaming devices go, has the most advanced hardware. It supports Dolby Vision but no Atmos.

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say, this is a bit frustrating. I've considered picking up a dedicated 4k disc player, but honestly, I'm not sure I want to spend 30 - 40 bucks a movie. It's not like I can just run down to Redbox and grab a 4k title.

Just get a roku. Netflix doesn't have much Atmos content at all and not supporting it on other hardware besides Xbox is their fault. I regularly use vudu to rent 4k Atmos titles on roku and have had excellent results. Vudu is also one of the only streaming providers that approach Blu-ray quality, both in sound and video, and they've recently significantly lowered the pric of Uhd content across the board.

Both Amazon and Apple have way too much proprietary crap to be worth it to me. Roku works with everything.

We have a Roku and just this weekend I had to sign up for Vudu to redeem the digital download of a couple movies I'd bought from Best Buy. I needed the digital because my wife's TV doesn't have a BluRay player, just DVD. (She won't change to BR until the DVD player with front control buttons dies. Hates change.)

I'm pleasantly surprised at the content Vudu has. She latched onto it straightaway and found a Bronson movie she hadn't seen. After watching our two owned movies (Hacksaw Ridge & 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri), she took advantage of our $0.99 first movie buy to watch Charles. She likes it and Happy Wife = Happy Life.

I set up the Ruku Ultra last night and Atmos works great! I'm not finding any Dolby Vision content however. It has plenty of HDR10, which I'm perfectly fine with, but are you sure it supports D Vision?

Why do you need Dolby Vision? Does HDR pretty do same thing.

Well “need” isnt the word I would choose. Dolby Vision is considered to be a slightly better version of HDR than HDR10. So really, it’s a nice to have.

Me, I don't get all hung up on the finer details of picture contrast, dynamic range, and such things. It's the movie content that has my interest. Sort of like my music listening. If I get too concerned about supreme sound quality, I may be missing out on the creativity of the music itself.

I think a lot of enthusiasts get lost in the finer details or picture quality and sound, that is when a new video display or hardware that comes to market, that only offer marginally better performance if any all, some are ready to scrap their existing equipment for the new stuff.

Not sure how it came across that way. Another forum member stated that Vudu had DV content. I was asking if he was sure.

I had a 52” Samsung that died after about 10 years of loyal service so I took the opportunity to buy a 4K set that supports Dolby Vision along with a new receiver. I’m just looking for ways to get the most out of it.

This is a hobby for me as I’m sure it is for anyone else here. Who wouldn’t want to watch a good movie in DV and Atmos at the same time right?
