Hi all

My 8 month old klipsch r-115sw has started to shut off when playing. I seems as if it shuts off when I play something on it at average levels. At very low levels it’s stays on. I tested it with a eq sweep from 20-200 hz, while continuously gaining up. When it reaches a certain point it just shuts itself off. I then need to unplug power, wait 30-40 seconds and then plug it back in and it’s back on. Same thing happens over and over.

What’s up with this? Is the thermal protection busted? ( if it even have one ).
Is the amp faulty? Any ideas?

Cheers

It obviously has a serious fault in the amp. Something is making the output take too much current and triggering protection.

Is the unit still under warranty? If so you need to return it. If it is out of warranty then it probably is not worth the cost of repair. The class D amps in subs are unreliable as a group and also difficult and costly to repair.

Sounds like something in the sub isn't happy with lots of current anymore. That isn't a good sign. Probably time for a replacement amplifier, if Klipsch still has any in stock.
