Hi, everyone!

I'm new in the world of av receivers, I bought an Onkyo ht-3700 almost a year ago, the receiver is the ht-393 (the one in the box, not the best, but the one I could afford), when I bought it a guy from the store visited me and installed and calibrated it, and I didn't have any problem (I mainly use it to listen music, punk rock, and metal to be specific) the problem is that a couple of months ago, my girlfried was watching a movie and she change something, it sounded horrible..

now after a research and lots of hours spend on it, it sounds kind of decent but not as it was before, the main problem is the front and central speakers, they sound flat on the mid tones, guitars sound far away, I don't feel "the punch" if you know what I mean, do you think you can help me? I share with you the configuration that It has right now.

Crossover 200 hz(Speakers are Satellite if I set them in 150 hz there's no much difference, but if I change it to 120hz or 100hz they sound a bit distorted)
Distance
FR: 8 feet
Central: 8 feet
FL: 8 feet
SR: 6 feet
SL: 6 feet
Subwoofer: 8 feet

Calibration:
FR: +4
Central: +3
FL: +4
SR: +1
SL: +1
Subwoofer: -1

do think I'm doing it wrong? do you think you can help me? this been driving me crazy

Experiment with the different Surround Modes: Direct, Stereo, etc.

My guess is also that some kind of EQ/Tones was used and changed the sound. So Direct mode will cancel that.

Why get a surround setup then use all channel stereo? It's not a surround mode, meant more for parties. Even if your source is 2ch, either basic stereo mode or upmixing it to surround with a Dolby or DTS sound mode would probably sound better.

I normaly listen in all channel stereo

hey lovinthe HD, I agree with you the 7 channel stereo is for party time, For cable or movie flicks, Which DSP setting you think brings out the best sound in surround?, Sci-fi, Spectacle, ect.

I don't usually use that type of dsp mode (sci-fi, spectacle, etc.) so not the guy to ask about those :) I generally use the Dolby modes for upmixing 2ch/5ch content, sometimes the Neo:6/DTS or Audyssey DSX modes depending on avr/speaker setup.

Denon (x2) and also an Onkyo with Audyssey. Never tried Yamaha, YPAO lacked on sub eq at the time, believe they finally got around to covering that now.

I almost always listen in native formats for video and I prefer DTS over Dolby when available. Listen to music in FLAC, DSD, and SACD.

well, as I wrote before I'm new in this world, now that you tell me that dts or thx are better i will change the whole set up again, to adjust it to this mode (my onkyo only support dts: 6 neo) thanks for the advice

You're always the final say on what is "better" sounding to you. I do think you'd prefer actual surround (assuming you've setup your speakers accordingly) over all-ch stereo mode, tho. Looking at your manual you do have Dolby modes to utilize (but could depend on your source/settings):
All Ch Stereo

Direct

Dolby D

Dolby D+

Dolby TrueHD

DSD

DTS

DTS 96/24

DTS Express

DTS-HD HR

DTS-HD MSTR

Full Mono
