The size if the hole is the least of your problems. You need a speaker that has the same Thiel/Small parameters and acoustic response.

Unless your woofer can be repaired or you can find an exact replacement on eBay that set of speakers if finished and need recycling.

What is the matter with the woofer? If it just needs refoaming that is likely possible. If the voice coil or cone are damaged that set of speakers is finished in all probability.

There used to be quite a few speaker repair places but they are closing. There are no sources of parts for Sony drivers that I can tell, which is becoming the norm now, which is why speaker repair places are closing. Simple Speakers are still around, but do not indicate they have Sony parts.

You might want to check with Sony if they have recone kits available. If the problem is not the surround then the speaker needs reconing.

If it just needs a new foam surround then Simply Speakers can help you, or if you are handy you could do it yourself.

If reconing is required, then you need a recone kit, which is cone and attached VC and suspension, dust cap and a set of factory shims. You also need speaker glue.

Failing to get what I have mentioned, it means you need to go speaker shopping.

So you don't even know if a wire just fell off the back of the speaker.

Take the speaker out and test it with an ohm meter for Heaven's sake!

so the reason the speaker stop working is that the magnet fell off the speaker itself so i had to remove the speak and use resin to put magnet back on , once i put it all back together that's when i realized that no sound was coming from woofer but yes i will get a ohm meter and test the speaker wire and connector to make sure that the wire is still connected next .

Are you sure you are not creating a wind up? I have been doing this for over 60 years. I have never had a magnet fall off a speaker or heard of it happening. If that happened it will have destroyed the VC.

So those speakers must be the worst of Far Eastern Junk. You are far better off without them. It will be a good day for you when you see the back of them.

You have only one to place to go with better speakers and that's up.

A magnet falling of the back of a speaker is an absolutely new low in audio manufacture.

They are not worth 10 cents and I'm serious. They are not fixable and a total loss. You paid far too much for them.

He needs to avoid those like the plague. Absolute total worthless junk.
Mark, These are Sony Core speakers, I think you're confused. These are quite decent for their price.

I agree the measurements are not bad, but a magnet fell off the back of a speaker! That's about as low as you can go. Must be put together with glue and matchsticks. You can't make a speaker for that price and not have something drastically bad happen.

Tell me, have you ever heard of a magnet falling off the back of a speaker? That is just wallowing in the gutter!

Yes, I was confused. I thought you were recommending he buy the same speakers. However may be a magnet will fall off one of those speakers also.

Magnets usually fall off due to being dropped. You would be amazed by the number of drivers that have glued-on magnets.

Glued on Magnets. Even I had not realized we have sunk that low. No wonder the prices for good vintage gear are so high on eBay.

We really should not be wasting the earth's resources on that sort of junk. People need to be patient save and own better products. We would all be better off then. This sort of practice like glued on magnets just makes me fume.

OTOH, some adhesives are incredibly strong, as long as the surfaces are prepped well.

One thing about vintage gear that bothers me- even the low and mid-level stuff is awfully expensive. A lot of it was nothing special when it was new and the reviews/comments on sites like AudioKarma are insane, glowing statements about the sound of a Sanyo receiver? Technics speakers? Sharp cassette decks with timers and far too many buttons? It was garbage then, it's still garbage.
