hi, am having multiple issues with getting sound from Netflix. For about a year I was using my Boxee box to watch Netflix. No prob, except only came out in stereo. watching a tv show , no prob. but when I watch a movie I want the full 5.1
I even called Netflix. they said 'are u hooked up to a 5.1 system??? ummm yup
anyways then my boxee remote started to act up and we couldn't even click on a show .....cursor would go all over the screen etc
so then we noticed our tv has a Netflix app/button no prob to get Netflix on tv ...just NO SOUND
while surfing net trying to find solution.....saw 'firestick' , bought it...and again I can get NETFLIX>>
NO SOUND I can not find any simple solution I just want to watch Netflix, amazon etc in 5.1
pls help

If you are plugging everything into your TV using HDMI you'll have to enable ARC to get the sound to your receiver.

If you receiver has HDMI then I would plug everything into the receiver.

I know Netflix is using Dolby Digital+. Does Boxee even support it? Didn't they close shop a while ago?
In any case, I'd recommend switching to newer HTPC client. If money is not too tight, just get Nvidia Shield TV and be happy with Plex or Kodi running on it.

Yep, without knowing specifics of connections to and settings in the units, you may just be missing something like enabling HDMI-CEC in the units to enable ARC, or simply needing to look at audio output/input settings in each device.

MOST devices only support stereo output from Netflix. For a long time it was only PS3/PS4, Fire TV, and one or two others that gave you anything other than stereo regardless of the stream types available for a given show. So there are multiple answers for your question. First is what was already mentioned - make sure you connect to the receiver not the TV, then make sure you audio output is set to DD/DD+ and then try again. If not, it is time for a new streamer.

Boxee has been dead for a long time. Bought by Samsung in 2013.

Agreed, this sounds like a software issue to me.
