Huh? Are you saying that properly made $300 sub is better than a cheap $100 sub? Nah, you couldn't be possible saying this...

p.s: Dayton Sub-1000 is a 10" sub, not 12". 12 is Sub-1200 - which still is 1/2 the price of emotiva.
If you want apples for apples, do compare Bas S12 with http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-1mk3.html.

But no matter what, I must say that this price points: 300-400 has been long underserved by most vendors and must congratulate Emotiva to add new subs at these price points.

In all fairness, I believe the SUB 1000 is a "properly made" $100 sub. Given the incredibly tight budget, I honestly do not think you could build a better subs as a commercial product (not diy)!
Ultimately, your point is valid, but if someone only has $100 for a sub, I can't think of a better option.

I stand corrected. PE/Dayton did a decent job on these given the tight budget. But with same manufacturing origin and (assuming) similar margins and costs, 3 times the retail price should allow better components, at least in theory.

I agree with @KEW. The sub does everything just right no boominess or port noise, decent output for its size, and makes it to 30hz in most rooms. I don't even think you can build a sub for $100 that decent.
