Its me again :). My Echo Dot will not play through my Yamaha RX A1050 . IT WILL RECIEVE from the unit but not transmit to it. Could it be the Bluetooth device or is there something else I could try?

Any suggestions on how to work around it? I don’t want to have to take my AVR to a repair shop.

I hooked my echo dot up with a 3.5 to rca just like I use in my airport express. Did you download the app and set it up?

“Transmit?” Are you sure? Check the manual, but I don’t think receivers transmit Bluetooth, only receive.

It does transmit and receive. It has both the settings in the Bluetooth section.

Yes and up until Wednesday it was working fine. The ECHO recieves the music over the web and sends it to my stereo to be played through my speakers. At least that’s how it’s supposed to work.

Unpair all devices on the echo. If you were sending the receiver to the echo, and now you want to send the echo to the receiver, the default is going to be for the the echo to receive, not to send. Echos are awesome, but very very finicky at times, add in the new BT formats and it's a mess.

I'm assuming you were using the echo as a BT speaker off your receiver and now want to use the echo as a source for your receiver?

Yes as a source. Thanks. No problem using my stereo as the source through the echo speaker but my
Phil’s sound better.

BTW MusicCast has been saying the update “ is coming “ for months, nothing yet!

Did you check the MusicCast setup? I have a WXC-50 MusicCast and when I initially got the Echo Dot, I think I tried it both directions and IIRC, it may be one of the 'skills' that Alexa uses.

Would change to Google Home a solution to you? I know it's the same technique but maybe it works.

I have all my home control/automation about where I want it now but playing Spotify, over my main system, with the DOT being the source still is frustrating. It's like I have to have a second source like a phone or tablet going to make a smooth transition.

The coolest routine I have so far is when I say "Alexa, time to go to work". It turns off all designated lights and turns on what I want on, turns heat or AC to designated temperature, turns off AV gear and TV, turns off the fireplace, starts the vacuum, opens my garage and starts my car.

Got the AVR to work. A tech from Yamaha called and told me how. Once I learned it was simple.

Step 1. On the remote choose Bluetooth input

Step 2. Go to Alexa on your phone app (search for new device) and have it search for your your stereo and pair it

Step 3. Tell your to Alexa to play something (pandora or whatever).

Works for me
