Sound system to achieve headphone like quality

Hello All,

I am a beginner but a music lover. I use Bose Soundtrue headphones and like the sound quality ( I am no Audiophile though :)
I want to have a sound system for my TV which can deliver similar sound quality as these headphones. I have no prior experience of such a system. I basically want to enjoy music rich content with clarity and decent bass. Having some degree of surround will be bonus.
1) I recently came across Bose soundbar while browsing their website. Should I buy Bose soundtouch 300 soundbar? Will the soundbar alone be sufficient or would I need to also buy the Bose Virtually invisible surround speakers as well as the Acoustimass subwoofer?
2) Or are there much better options available for lesser price from Bose or other brands?

I realize my question may be a bit open ended. many thanks for your inputs

Sound Bars and Bose systems are not on the same level as a proper sound system. There are many ways to put together a good quality sound system. I'm not sure you can do so for 700 dollars anymore. You can certainly do better than the Bose setup, but I think craiglist and ebay are your best bet. Infinity is probably the most popular high quality speaker brand so I suggest looking around and seeing if you can score some nice Infinity speakers. You'll need a receiver too. Accessories4less has the best deals on those.

The Bose soundbar 300 does sound pretty good in the store...it can get fairly loud...but in almost all cases you need a sub to make it work.

If you really want to stick with a sound bar, in a similar price range the GoldenEar the 3D Array XL is the one I heard...paired with a sub it performs better than you would expect for a sound bar.

But, it's not cheap, $1500 for the sound bar alone + another $500 for the sub. If I were going to spend that much...the HSU CCB-8...LCR + a sub would yield much better results.

If you came looking for suggestion on selecting Bose stuff, I'm afraid you came to wrong place.
If you are truly not came to troll us and are open minded we can definitely guide towards such system at lower cost and better quality.
First of all, if you can purchases everything in one box, most likely is garbage and you would not be able to upgrade partially.
Second - all Bose in store demos are extremely and unfairly staged and would never sound same in your room.
That soundbar you've mentioned is $700, fairly crazy price for such crappy sound.
I could recommend you a system with nice mid room filling sound for this budget.
One of options:

another:

and getting a older model 2nd hand mid-range AVR for $150 from Kijji should not be much of an issue
