Denon AVR3805 and remote controls

Hi, the RC-970 that came with my AVR died a few years back and the shop I bought the system from sold me a Denon RC-1068, which ended up unfortunately only doing the basics and not the full functionality of the RC-970. I recently sold the RC-1068 on eBay.

I recently bought a Denon RC-969, which was supposed to work with the 3805, but when AMP is selected, nothing is displayed for SOURCE and SURROUND, so I can't use it effectively. I'm in contact with the eBay seller to try and sort that out, and will probably return it.

What I'd like to know is what Denon RCs work fully with the 3805, i.e. perform all functions?

I found someone suggesting the RC-995 might be suitable.

Anyone have any advice please?

I remember the one that came with mine did not last long but the one they replaced it with on warranty is still working in perfect condition. You should email Denon, may be they still have one of those kicking around and/or they could sell you one for the later model that may work on the 3805.

Hi Peng, many thanks. Unfortunately mine stopped working after the warranty expired. I contacted the Australian Denon distributors and they've got back to me saying they have units of the RC-970 in stock, but the price is pretty high at AUD$226.

For that kind of money you may consider getting a universal remote instead.

I used the harmony 659 to control my 3805...easily tweaked to control every macro to suit your personal needs/preferences...can't beat them if you ask me. I've changed avr's 2x's but still use the same remote.

I bought my 3805 as a floor model and never had an origanal remote. I started with a Harmony 676 and am now using a Harmony 550. I have never had a problem getting to and controling everything I have needed to do.

The RC-980 works well with the AVR-3805
Hi Mark, when you say it works well, do you know if ALL of the functions on the RC970 (including controlling a DVD-3910) work on the RC980? My RC970 (second one) has just died and if the RC980 can do what the RC970 did, then I'd probably get a RC980, which seems to have more reliable technology, rather than trying to source another RC970.

Never had an RC970 nor do I have a DVD-3910 or any other Denon device, so I can’t say. It would seem it should, and the RC980 ought be the natural progression of the former remote. I’d say go for it.
