It's a good time to get a good sub for a great price. They've knocked the prices down on their PB/SB12-NSD once again!

I've personally not heard either one, but I know SVS and these look like great subwoofers for the price!

Yes, I have owned both of these subs. Though not at the same time. The PB12-NSD will knock your socks off when it comes to HT. The SB12-NSD is very good with music. I am thinking about ordering the SB12 myself. Sounds like you have a good setup there. Congrats! :):):)

Cheers,

Phil

and at that almost $300 drop those are perhaps still over priced.

These aren't bad subs. That is a good deal for the price. They are very linear, especially the PB12. It is not a midbass output monster, but the deep bass output is very clean. You can get two for $1k, and that is pretty good performance/$ ratio. The Sb12 would make for a nice little sub for a desktop PC system. Two for $800 would be a pretty good desktop PC sub system.

I generally prefer SVS for the reasons shady mentions, incredibly linear and clean, also virtually indestructible. SVS subs simply don't distort or bottom out, but this comes at the expense of some output. $499 for the PB12-NSD with a 5-year warranty to back your purchase is an excellent deal IMO.

I guess $800 for a pair of SB-12NSD is a good deal, and 45 days to return them. Due to size this is about as big as can fit in the space where my current subs are (pair of Definitive ProSub 800). I tried that Merlin tool on the SVS website, it recommends the SB-13 Ultra ($1600) to go with my speakers!

My room is about 25' x 15' x 9' ceiling.

You can't always go by what everyone says. I had a Rythmik and could not get the volume I wanted out of it. I know own the Outlaw Ultra 12 and it will blow my doors off. I would still like a sealed sub to try with my music only system. This Sealed SVS looks really tempting to run with my bookshelf music system.

Good to know, but we need a data point. Which Rythmik and how big was the room.

Same as Phil, I have had both of these subs but not at the same time. I traded the SB for the PB and I was very impressed with the clean output of the ported version. The SB held its own just fine in my room for HT but the PB was much more tactile and took my HT to a whole new level. The nice thing about the PB is it is ~90-95% PB2000 at 60% the cost (no need to check my numbers, I am a mathmagician) and would likely blend with a PB2000 as well.

Your numbers are not quite right, at least as far as performance goes. The PB-2000 has a considerable performance advantage over the PB12-NSD, ranging from 2 to 4 dB depending on frequency. That is roughly a 30% to 60% increase in performance.
