Nice. You'll be very surprised at how much of an improvement the Denon is over your Pioneer. Audyssey alone will surprise you.

I'm sure I will be. The receiver I had was a pioneer vsx-522k and the sub I ordered will be my first.
Congrats, glad you could follow through this soon.

Refresh my piss-poor memory, what speakers are these going with!

Front main speakers are Technics SB-CR99's center channel is a sharp soundboard and surrounds are Insignia bookshelf speakers. I know it's not much but it works and it sounds good to me. This new AVR and sub will make me super happy.

Yep!
They'll definitely make a big difference!

I know back in the late 70's Technics seemed to have the best speakers of the mainstream audio companies from Japan. As a rule the Japanese were not yet in competition with American and European speakers.

They were free so I can't complain. Also they have a 15" woofer and I think the sub will compliment them very well.

Happy BD!! Nice present, eh?
Yep, as well as the Denon AVR-X1300W that will be here tomorrow, a new phone and some kick pedals for my drums. (These I'm also considering as Christmas gifts too)

So, the AVR came yesterday. got it all hooked up and ITS AMAZING! The Sub is amazing as well, gives that nice low end I've been missing all these years. Thank you to everyone that recommended I get the AVR-X1300W. I am on very happy camper now. This Receiver is 1000x better than my old pioneer (Which is now in the dumpster btw)

I do have one question though, the sub has a crossover as well as the receiver, which one should I use? I'm currently using the AVR's crossover. I've also set the sub volume level to half as directed to do in the initial Audyssey setup.

Just use the crossover in the avr and turn the low pass filter on the sub to the max value (it would need an output to your speakers to be a crossover, if it even has such capability); some subs that have an LFE input connection automatically take the low pass filter out of the way, but turning it to max is safe if you're not sure about yours. The avr may also have a low pass filter for the LFE channel, this is not a crossover and normally would be set to 120hz.
