Used AV receiver?

Hello to all! I just purchased a home with a media room....excited! I decided against Bose cubes and for orb audio because of look and mount, and now looking for something to power. I have little knowledge what to look for in an av receiver. Would you so kindly recommend what I should look for? My budget would be around 150ish, then will upgrade in the future.
I did look for threads about this subject, but they are few, especially in the present 2016-17

Probably not if your 4000 doesn't have it.
Please explain a situation where you find this useful so I can regret not having it on my Denon!
I don't know what I'm missing!o_O

I use the TV speakers for background sound a lot. For example, going through my morning routine, I watch/listen to news through the TV speakers. I usually end the day with music (Media Player or Network input) played through the Denon.

From habit, I turn to Cable input before turning the Denon off the previous night. When I forget, I have to turn on the Denon to change the input and turn it off again.

The Denon is off, I'm watching cable and want to switch to the laptop (since the laptop sitting on the rack, is plugged in via HDMI), when I want to use the TV as a monitor.

Honestly, this was not an issue until I used the Yamaha for 3 months while the Denon was having an HDMI board replacement. But, now I know better and want better.

That depends on habits and is something I would never miss! I get my morning new over the radio (actually Amazon Echo Dot attached to speakers) in the bedroom bathroom as I start my morning. I turned off my TV speakers using the TV setup menu when I first installed the TV, so never crossed my mind to use the TV without the AVR powered up!

But one of these should take care of that!

I'm not bothered enough to add that splitter. Besides, its not elegant. I'm stupid like that.

My replacement for the X4000 will definitely have HDMI switching in standby, like the 2016+ models :mad:.

Why on earth you think your speakers or even the avr are up to snuff is beyond me...they're pretty weak. Maybe you should look at only soundbars or similar weak audio setups.

Is this response for me? I'm guessing you aren't digging the orbs?

If you have a suggestion for small satellite speakers that are pretty affordable, I'm all ears! I was at first looking at Bose cubes, but Bose gets beat up on these forums. Orbs were recommended

Our media room isn't very big and I like the appearance of small speakers mounted and hidden

This is where you have to decide if appearance or sound quality matter most to you. I'd look for something with a 5-6" woofer(s) so that you'll experience a smooth 60-80hz transition from the speakers to the subwoofer and back (much above 80hz it's like an audio-only version of pong) and generally speaking tower speakers are easier for a relatively low powered receiver to drive.

Only one way to hide speakers and still have great sound is with in-wall speakers.
The challenges are many, but it's possible to achieve great sound and "invisible" speakers. Any tiny speakers would be compromised by same issues mentioned above.
