It is with sadness that I announce that my Pioneer VSX-522K has died today. She served me greatly for 5 years. Rest in Peace. :-(

5 years is far too short of a life for a receiver. Were you pushing it hard? Was it used in humid conditions, or did it not have good ventilation?

Never pushed too hard, I'm in the West Texas desert so not humid at all and did have good ventilation. Never had anything on top of it. I did however get it as an open box item for a discounted rate. And have also heard others having a short lifespan with this particular model. But that's okay. It gives me a reason to go buy a Denon AVR.

my condolences. any time a dear family member passes, we should observe a moment of silence.
Since the receiver died, silence is probably all you'll have so let's not get carried away.
once the period of mourning is over, the good news is there's lots of great choices.

5 years, you bet that sad. Just goes to show the junk being produced today, not like the good old days for Pioneer !

Shopping for new AVR is good shiiiii...stuff. West Texas is a whole other country from Central TX. Be glad you don’t live in Amarillo.

I used to live in Amarillo long ago. I live in Snyder, roughly 3 hours away.

I have a backup soundbar/sub system that I am using (it's jerry-rigged all to hell but it sounds decent!) That will get me through until I can afford a new AVR. Already have my sights on a few Denon AVR's just debating which one to get.

I'll agree, my dad has a Pioneer VSX5400 from back in the 1990's that still works!

If I were you I’d look for used stuff. It might be a bit tricky but you will likely find stuff in your budget. Sydney is north of Brownwood. I sort of like the country around there. Top end of the llano escarpment.
