Advice on new home set-up

So - i just bought the Denon AVR-X3300W (was hard to find but there was one on Amazon). will Tidal work on the 3300? seems it does on the 2300 but i cant find if it does on the 3300!

also got the Dynaudio Emit M20s (got a bit of a discount, but couldnt find much cheaper from store to store). the revel m16 were tempting but in the end there was a big price difference (at least here in the UK)

Awesome! According to the 3300W specs, it doesn't have the Tidal app. You'll need to steam on the Fire TV connected via HDMI.

The H suffix Denon have Tidal app. You're probably looking at a 2300H.

Hmm..
given the 3400 doesnt have Tidal or Alexa (not sure how i'll use alexa yet though) - do you think i would be better off with the 2300? realise its got less power, but would be nice to use tidal

i do have fire tv though so maybe tidal is OK from fire tv on the 3400?

thinking it would be nice to have HEOS built-in? seems a bit of a shame to buy a new receiver and not be able to stream tidal through heos.
would there be a massive quality difference/drop if i go for the new Denon AVR-X2400H versus the older Denon AVR-X3300W? they are similar in price now. otherwise i can go for the x3400h - but price jumps up a lot, and given electronics dont last forever - seems like a TON of extra £'s

Go with the 2400H if it has the features you see yourself actually using. Audyssey XT32 downgrade can be minimized with good speaker placement and optimal seat location.

One other quick question - have an older Sony kdl 40v 5500 TV- are the new TVs a significant improvment in terms of picture quality?

Had not thought of changing it (it's from 2009 I think)- but realising it's quite old!

Yes, TVs have improved since 2009. Upgrading it makes sense if you're going for a large (55"+) one or sitting close enough to resolve the added detail provided by UHD. There's very little streaming content to justify the cost and you'll need a UHD disc and player to get full benefit of a new TV.

I suggest keeping the current TV until your travel plans are solidified.

so the speakers (dynaudio) arrive today - which is exciting. i'm close to buying the Denon AVR-X2400H, but just thinking - for my basic needs (watch movies at 70% and music at 30% with 2 speakers, a subwoofer), in the short term would a stereo AV receiver work well? i was put off as one sales person said there could be a delay on the sound when watching movies with a stereo amp. is this quite possible, or is it unlikely?

for the same price as the denon av i could get a really decent stereo amp - but i want to be able to watch movies without any kind of sound delay!

That would be one feature that an avr has, i.e. audio delay adjustment (and over hdmi many units have auto sync). Can't think of any stereo AVRs at all, tho....you have an example?

Getting lip sync issues depends on how long the TV takes to process input signal and output sounds. The delay in a stereo amp (using analog input) will be insignificant. Without trying it, there's just no way to be sure one way or the other.

I prefer the AV receiver route since its more mindful of future additions like a subwoofer or more speakers or UHD TV and player.

thank you agarwalro. i pulled the trigger on the denon av - so excited to set everything up! going to have a look at subwoofers as well - a couple people recommended the SVS SB-2000. also saw Bkelec rated quite well for a UK/europe option

The phones port on the avr is an output for headphones. I'd use airplay/wi-fi over a bluetooth connection, if available. Wired input from your phone to the avr could be done with a 3.5mm to dual rca plug adapter, using any of the stereo line inputs on the rear of the unit (unless you have one of the newer iphones without such a 3.5mm port?...not an apple guy).

ok - another issue! trying to watch netflix or amazon prime now on the fire tv, and the denon volume is on MAX - but i can barely hear the audio. denon works fine for playin music and i dont need to go anywhere near to max volume - but with amazon fire tv the volume just doesnt go high enough - any troubleshooting advice?

Never used an Amazon Fire...first thought is does it have its own volume adjustment in its setup menu?

Otherwise you might try raising the input level for that input/source in the Denon; if like my Denon using the remote it's Setup > Inputs > Source Level.

hello! i think i was using hte AV reciever wrong - i rebooted, and selected media player from the Denon - and then everything has been playign absolutely fine!

i went w/ the xxlS400-DF in the end, so looking forward to hearing how it all sounds together. thanks again for all the help

Can you explain that "using the av receiver wrong" statement? Now you've got me scratching my head as to what you did
