After a not-so-long consideration of options, I've decided to go with what @panteragstk suggested and go with the Denon AVR-X1300W (had to get wifey approval first. I'm sure some of you know how that goes :) )

This is what I see when I follow the mentioned post to change my location.

EDIT: Nevermind, after reading more on the post, I have to have X amount of posts before I can edit my info.

I'm just curious to hear everyones opinion: I've heard of taking a receiver and using it as an amplifier for a subwoofer. for example: Main AVR --> Sub pre-out --> Secondary Receiver Aux-in --> Subwoofer via front L/R channel. Has anyone tried this? how well did it work? Would this be Ideal until I can afford a new sub? I have a passive sub that came from another system that was given to me and I want to use it to get those sub-bass frequencies and to give a nice rumble, I plan on putting it behind my couch

It can be done, though I doubt any AVR will have sufficient juice.

What sub? If higher impedance and sensitivity...maybe.

It's a JVC sub that came out of one of those "home theater in a box" systems. I'll have to pull the speaker out to check the impedance. I've had it hooked up to a sound bar once before. I disconnected the 8" sub that came with the sound bar and used the amplifier in it but I'm not sure what the wattage was. It was ghetto but it worked very well. I used it as a 2.1 speaker setup for my PC when I didn't have a mancave to setup my home theater system in. (wife wouldn't let me run speaker wire)

Also depends on the receiver's amp section....what receiver?

Please do us a favor and delete the ad in your tapatalk signature settings?

Once I get my new receiver I was going to use my Pioneer VSX-522K to power the sub on pure direct mode since it works with no issues on that mode.

Actually, I'm 33 years old working full time at a cable company. I also repair computers on the side. I've done IT before and would love to do it again but I live in a small town. I am currently learning a lot about Linux as I also build custom roms for Android. I will be posting some questions as I am looking to upgrade my receiver as it has been giving me fits lately. I've grown up around home theater stuff as my dad was a TV repair tech for Sears for many years. I have a great deal of knowledge about it but I'm always open for more information.
I used to help people unbrick their devices and flash custom ROM's over on XDA Developers. Man those DEV's put up with a lot of crap for all they do over there, lol . I'm in McKinney, Texas myself and went to college in Denton so not too too far away from your neck of the woods. I Google mapped you.

Nice, I maintain unofficial builds of Resurrection Remix for the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3. I've also built AEX for the same device as well.
