Mixing Dayton sub 1200s with sub 1500?

Wondering if it would be worth it to get flatter bass by placing 2 sub 1200s in different room locations along with the sub 1500 up front. The difference in frequency response is a mere 2 hz. Obviously the sub 1500 has a lot more horsepower, but would it even be an issue with the gain from other subs? I cannot fit two more 1500s in my room.

Since the sub 1500 has a port tuning frequency of 23hz, to even out the response, I’m considering bumping 23hz up high enough to keep the response I’m room -3dB @23hz. I don’t see this being an issue headroom wise, since I can get about 110dB @3m at 23hz vs 105dB from 30hz up due to the minimal excursion at the tuning.

What do you think?

The other option is just ditch the big subs and go for 4 sub 1000s, which measure -3dB @30hz. My living room has a lot of room gain below 30hz, so I might get a bit lower.

Any suggestions?

The problem with mixing these subs is they have different dynamic ranges. The 12"s will run out of steam before the 15" and will be a system bottleneck. I would just go for another 12" or however many more it takes to achieve a flat frequency response.

By the way, don't trust the -3 dB points on any of these subs. A $100 ported 10" is just not going to be very capable below 40 Hz or so, period. If you are not concerned with deep bass, it ought to be fine. None of those subs have amazing drivers or amps, but they should be fine as long as they are not stressed.

For the sub 1000 and 1500 I’m going by my own measurements. I have no idea what the -3dB point of the 1200 is, other than going on others measurements. I know the port (based on length and width) is tuned to about 27hz, I have some major room gain in the rear of the room (where the 1200 would go) below 25hz, so much so that measurements of the rear right corner shows the sub 1500 having a usable (-10dB) response as low as 18hz, so I should gain some extra low end towards the rear. The sub 1000 is flat to 30hz in that room as well.

Assuming I got a 30hz -3dB response in room, I’m not sure how much I would miss losing an extra 7hz.

Either way, whether it’s room gain or not, I get 25hz with the 1500, and 30hz with the 1000.

Didn't realize you had the 10 yet. I'm not saying your not getting 25hz with the 15, but at what spl realtive to your mains?

IMO, since you seem to be gainfully employed, I would put some money under your mattress every chance you get, and save it up until you can buy something more capable. What’s going to happen, is once you can hit your spl goals, your going to seek extension. I also recall that you enjoy movies, and as such, I think your selling yourself short by dismissing the 25hz and lower region. I also would disqualify-10db at 18hz useable. You mentioned 4 sub1000’s as an option. That’s roughly 500bucks. I think it’s 500 bucks you should save and invest in better subwoofage.
