Greetings,

I need a new A/V Receiver, as my 15 yr. old Sony has lost a Channel, I believe ( one of my wall-mounted Bose cube speakers is not producing any sound ). I also need a new TV for the room. Inputs into the receiver include a cable tv box, blue-ray player & vcr. I want to keep the cube speakers - what do you think of an NAD T-758 as a new receiver?

Thanks!

DSD

I'm going to rekindle this zombie thread because NAD has announced version 3 of this receiver and it is a whopper: Atmos 7.1.4 with Dirac, all for $1200.

https://nadelectronics.com/product/t-758-v3-av-surround-sound-receiver/

But the reviews so far on places like CRutchfield indicate that some of the features haven't been rolled out yet. And that current software is unstable.

Yet of everything on the market, this one is the best value for the features I seek (7.x.4 with Dirac) so I am hoping an owner or two here can chime in with their experience.

May as well just start a new thread. The inclusion of Dirac in an avr at this price point is very interesting. What features haven't been rolled out yet? How is the software unstable? Tease! :)

Where did you get that price point? I didn't seem to see that on the provided link?

Be patient... Great features but release is premature..
The new firmware is still buggy, it will take more time to validate this..

Just my $0.02... ;)

I am basing my comment on what's working and what's still pending based on the reviews posted at Crutchfield from owners.

Yeah its hopefully something that NAD will fix but right now it's just a promising announcement rather than a product that appears ready for the marketplace. But if it was ready, at that price point, it would be a giant killer, imo.

Am I missing something or is 5.1.2 the max Atmos experience you can ever get, even with an external amp?

I'd be fine with a 7 channel avr that has the robust amp section that nad has, but can I have more outputs to expand to full 7.1.4?

Look alike 7.1.4 to me but only yhe seven base layer channels have amps. To get four overheads one needs external amplification

I would pay more to get the Denon avr-x4400h, or much less for the x4300w. The NAD may be heavier but less features, a little less output though insignificant. Dirac live may be the only advantage.

Page 20 of the manual says you can do four height speakers...

Dirac is the deal breaker. But yes if that is not of interest there isn't much reason to get the NAD. For me, that's a requirement and the NAD might be the most cost effective option once they release the Dirac update.

I'm absolutely certain that Nad has more power if both it and the Denon were equally benchmarked. Nad has always been crazy conservative on their power ratings. I'd also bet good money that the Nad will sound better.

My reservations are the seemingly lack of full 7.1.4, only 5.1.2, at least that's what Crutchfield says, but lovin says otherwise. Also, a buggy AVR will drive you to drinking.
