Hi,

I am planning to setup new home theatre system. I am trying to figure out if there is big difference in getting an Onkyo system HT-S9800THX or buy the speakers SKS-HT993THX and amplifier TX-RZ820 separately.

Cost wise getting a HT system is much economical. I cannot figure out if there huge difference specifications wise. All features in HT system seem to be present in speaker + amp and vice-versa. So I am not sure if it is prudent to spend large amount in buying speakers and amp separately. What advantage would I have in buying separately?

Regards,
Sid

I wouldn't bother with Onkyo speakers. And a lot of people wouldn't bother with their AVR's right now either.

Denon seems to be king of the AVR hill right now.

If you can give us some information about your budget/goals/room size/listening habits we can give you much better advice and suggestions.

Most of us wouldn't buy a 5.1 kit of speakers either, especially the HTIB variety let alone the bundle of avr/speakers in most HTIB kits. We'd encourage you to spend more on your initial 2.1/3.1 setup instead of going with a lesser all-in-one set of 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. We mostly wouldn't consider Onkyo brand speakers/subs generally. You can do better, and the sub need not match the speakers except for convenience or aesthetics.

I am presently working in Saudi so my options are pretty much limited to Onkyo or bose. Haven't seen a denon store, may take bit of search, but found a website which has denon products so hopefully I can get it here (https://www.ubuy.com.sa/en).

My budget is 1500-1600 USD. Primary purpose is movies (3D, marvel, horror) and PS4 pro for games in another 3 months all connected to 60in UHD tv. I have 12 sq.m hall and another of similar size. I plan to use a 7.1.2 AVR and setup 5.1 in main hall and pair of atmos speakers immediately or somewhere down the line. Use remaining 2 speakers to extend in 2nd hall so wife can hear whats going on while working in there or use them as separate zone to listen to music. I wouldn't upgrade for another 4-5 years at the least so would like to go with latest available now.

That is quite a bit different set of choices where you are than here in the US....but I'd still look for other than home theater in a box type solutions or speaker sets. The Onkyo htib sets do usually have a better receiver than most, though. You might try this sub-forum, it's more dedicated to that sort of gear.
