My towers are spiked as well as my floor is carpet over a concrete floor in the basement. Stability is the main purpose. I also have them tilted back a little as well as they are a little on the short side from a tweeter/ear height perspective. Besides spikes on a speaker are analogous to long legs in high heels. :)
