Best speakers to suit room size.

Hi all.

I am converting a room into a home theatre. It will be dedicated for this use and the dimensions are
11 x 11.5 x 7.5 ft (W x L x H).

I may listen to music occasionally.

The floor is carpeted and the walls and ceilings are drywall.

I am leaning towards bookshelf speakers, centre speaker and a sub with two dolby atmos in-ceiling speakers.

I have chosen a Denon avr-x3300 receiver.

I am not a loud listener, clarity and sound quality are more important.

Would there be anything to gain from swapping out the front bookshelves for floorstanders?

I am considering KEF Q100's with the floorstander upgrade being the KEF Q500's

Denon 3000 series with Audyssey XT32 is a great choice.

I would get 2 smaller Subs + 2 Stands + 2 Monitors to put atop the 2 Subs.

Basically this will give you 2 "big modular towers".

The center and surrounds can also be the same exact monitors.

I would forego the ATMOS surround speakers since your room is so small and just do 5.2 (5 monitors + 2 subs).

Your room is rather small.
In my opinion, I would keep the bookshelves but I would suggest that you eventually get a second subwoofer for better low frequency balance instead of purchasing the tower floorstanders.

At less than 950 cubic feet, I don't think 2 subs will be needed. I've had two bookshelf/sub set ups in the past (5.1) but really prefer two towers/sub (5.1). My room is not much larger than yours @ 1400 cubic feet, but the towers do fill the room much nicer than the previous bookshelves.

I don't have any pictures. But I used to own KEF Reference 201/2 monitors and Funk Audio 18.0 Subs. I would place 12" or 18" speaker stands on top of the subwoofers. Then place the monitors on the stands.

It's essentially a "tower". The benefits: subwoofers will provide much better bass quality, quantity, and control compared to towers.

This may also save you some space compared to 2 towers + 1 subwoofer.

What is your budget for the 5 speakers + 1 subwoofer?

Which brands are available to you? Where would you buy it from? Local store?

For 2K, it would be something like:

$500 subwoofers x 2 = $1K
$200 monitors x 5 = $1K

Or

$625 subwoofers x 2 = $1250
$150 monitors x 5 = $750

That may or may not mean anything to you, I see you are in the US. Both have good websites though.

"Monitor" is largely a marketing term at this point, and does not accurately describe the function or intended implementation of a speaker.

Tower speakers provide a broader frequency response, meaning they are more capable for bass....BUT modern soundtrack mastering has made for an LFE channel. And with modern DSP programming, subwoofers are infinitely more capable than tower speakers. So rest assured with your room size and recommendations for bookshelf speakers with properly implemented subs you will get an incredible home theater experience!
