What is the correct way to connect a Sonance "The Sub" to a Yamaha Rx-V1500? This gear is 17 years old so the terminology may be old too.

I connected the subwoofer cable from the RX-V1500 output labeled "subwoofer" to the Sonance input labeled "mono," but the subwoofer doesn't work when I play CDs.

Is this a wiring issue or do i need to manage the settings on the RX-V1500?

You may need to tell the receiver there is now a subwoofer connected or employ a sound mode that uses the sub. Check the receiver's manual....you sure the sub is functional?

I just noticed the arrow on the subwoofer cable points out on the subwoofer mono connection. Unfortunately, this cable is buried behind the walls including a 9 degree turn, so it won't be easy to change.

Are subwoofer cables unidirectional?

Did you have the bose mid bass module hooked up before? Your settings are probably off. As for cable directionality , yes it flows either way lol. Very few cables are directional

Yes, I did go from the passive Bose module to the active Sonance "The Sub." I'm trying to go through the settings now, unfortunately it is not a user friendly manual. Also, it is extremely limited in its info about settings for the subwoofer.

Some settings play just out of the center speaker, others play out of all 5. I assume if all 5 are playing, then the bass too would be receiving a signal.

If all the outputs from the bose mid bass module went to the cubes your gonna need to connect them to the Yamaha and remove the rca connections and do bare wire to each channel on the Yamaha. Your crossover point needs to be the highest setting and in the menu set all speakers to small and set the sub high also. Best bet ditch all the bose and start fresh as I'm sure that you will have to large of a crossover gap and loose audible information.

The sub cable shouldn't matter what end is plugged in where. Some silly marketing did accompany "directional" cables. Is it a standard rca cable? If so you should be fine.

Just the center speakers sounds like a mono source perhaps. What are you using for sources and how are they connected (cd player, cable box and/or ?). Your source and settings will determine if there will be any info sent to the sub; generally you need to set your speakers to small to enable bass re-direction from the other speakers to the sub, if set to large then you'd rely on .1/LFE content in the source.

Your receiver still has the YPAO auto-setup mic? Follow the instructions on page 27 of the manual https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/4/333344/RX-V1500_U_rev1.pdf

Just brought the Subwoofer to my friends and it turns out it is broken. My friend is guessing that like many mid-range electronics the capacitors dried out.

Thanks for trying to help me solve this.
