Can't remember where I found that one but I saved it in my phone for times just like these. Might even work!
As long as you don't have any critters you want to stay around your house. I guess there is a chance the rodent would receive a lighter "warning" shock through the peanut butter before making solid contact.
Also fire hazard if the wrong object were to fall on it.

Oh yeah. Lots of practical reasons not to use this design but I love it.

As to the cannibal thing not really sure, but in my previous place out in the woods we had quite the critter problem...found a trap with just part of a mouse once. Don't know if he got eaten by fellow mice or a tree rat.
