Hi everybody, im new here and im seeking for good home theater system with low budget. I saw the following options and I would like to know what you think:

  • Receiver: Yamaha RX-V381 or Yamaha RXZ-1000

  • Speakers 5.1: JBL Cinema SB 510, Yamaha NS P20 or Yamaha NS P40
The prices are similar, between 450-550.

Thanks, regards!!

I would start with a receiver and a good pair of bookshelf speakers to start -- then save and build up from there.

I agree with zieg. Instead of getting the whole kit and kaboodle in one shot, aim a little higher and get a better quality stereo pair with a decent receiver to start. Get a good foundation to build on. I spent more than a year upgrading and I'm very pleased with what I ended up with.

You can rely on honest advice here.

I'm sure you weren't expecting a top shelf system, but you're not going to get a "good" home theater system for under $600. Post #2 offered the best option.

Yup, $600 is pushing it, but I'll bet he could find something at AC4L and maybe the AA's from Philharmonic Audio to start. By all accounts they're very good, budget friendly speakers with enough bass that they can be used as mains or moved to surround duty if you fall into some money and want to upgrade.

Like 2 channel said, it's not top shelf, but I wouldn't have a problem owning those speakers (already have that receiver).

The term "low budget" conjures up different ideas for sure. :D

When I was in college about 25 years ago, my "low budget" AVR + 5 Monitors + 1 Sub was $1,500. :D

I love the Phils idea...even with the low cost of the AAs it won't leave a ton of budget left for a substantial AVR, but he can find one with pre outs and build as the budget allows.

Just curious if you noticed any different sound character with the funky flat tweeter as compared to a dome?
(I know it's not a proper question, but I'm still giving it a question mark!:))
Mercy, I linked the wrong speaker. I meant to link the SX-60. I have edited my post.:) -- I have not listened to the BMR tweeter, and I am not interested, as the BMR seems to be better suited as a midrange crossed over to a tweeter.
