Chane "Audiophile"speakers.

Who has them now, and what do you like or don't like about them.
Do you run bookshelfs with a sub or without a sub. What is your source when using them. If you have Cane Towers do you use them in a 2.1 only or do you use them in a 5.1, 5.2 or higher set up in a surround set only. And if you have Cane Towers Only in a 2.1 with just a pre-amp amp and your "source" aka. CD player, TT analog only or is your source just your PC for streaming only?

I am not as dismissive as TLS Guy, but there is a lot of hype for these speakers without any third party measurements. It's hard for me to get excited about a speaker that is a complete unknown. Let's see some actual performance measurements. These speakers are getting discussion simply by using AMT tweeters and XBL^2 woofers, but particular driver types do not necessarily add up to a great speaker. Performance does.

Yes, I have owned the Chane A2.4's across the front. No, they are NOT pieces of junk. In fact, they are some of the better speakers that I have ever owned. I would say they are more neutral w/o any listening fatigue at all. The Planar tweeters are airy and extended. The low end is very tight and controlled. I could crank these speakers extremely loud and they never once lost their composure. What I liked the most is their imaging capabilities. Three A2.4's across the front were very impressive inmho.

BTW, I never owned the A5's just helped a friend sell his. Most people know that I am NOT a tower guy and never have been. But, if I were to ever opt for towers, then the A5's would be highly considered. That is why I ended up with the A2.4's instead of the A5's.

Although I have never owned/heard the Chane A5's, I do know that they won a big shootout among various brands over at Hometheatershack in the $1K a set range. Please note that I do not post over there much. Just something that I have read. This evaluation was with the original A5. They have since then been improved. Here is a link:

Thanks Phil, I ran across those line of speakers in a other forum a year or so ago the actual owners of them, they seemed to like them a lot. I know that tweeter design has been around quite a while. I could be mistaken and I have slept since then but I think realistic speakers had that tweeted designer similar to it but it was only in a bookself design. Maybe I should do more research and see if I can come up with a look see on the crossover design. The aluminum frame design of the drivers, would that help with the despairing of heat from the voice coil?

That is why I asked, TKS Guy..I am really tired of throwing my hard money on speakers that have marketing "hype" only to find out umm yeah they sound good, good build but fall alpart when they are pushed, yes I know a whole lot of other factors come into play, source, pre amp, amp, room treatments and so on. 2 g,s is a lot of money for some and not a lot for others I get that.

FWIW Chane was created by merging of Arx Loudspeakers (Jon Lane, The Audio Insider) and Chase Home Theater (Craig Chase) but believe Mr Chase is no longer associated with the company. I do believe they are made in China, though designed in the USA.....their speakers generally get very good remarks in the forums.

Mike, that would be a very good question for Jon Lane. After all, he designed them. Therefore, he knows what the said drivers can and can NOT do better than anyone. Perhaps, you go to the Chane website and ask him yourself and/or give Jon a call, no? Here is a link:

Yes, I posted some pics of my A2.4's when I had them. But, I have never owned the A5 towers. A good friend of mine sold his A3 towers and I helped him do so. My friend moved up to some Revel towers which was a HUGE step-up. Both in performance and/or price. You have a very good memory.......LOL!!!!

All speakers, and everything you drop a nickel on has marketing hype. Just look at the trendy language associated with everything we do these days. It gets people to basically throw away, perfectly good speakers with at least another 10-20 years of use left in them.

Possibly 99% of this hobby is not audiophilia, it's spendophilia. Comparatively, my uncle owned and maintained the same tube gear and speakers for over 50 years. When he passed, they discovered he had enough spare, NOS parts, to keep them going for another 50. When his audio supplier caved to the big box stores, the owner 'gave' my uncle all the parts stock he was interested in instead of sending it off to the auctioning block.

Whenever I look at speakers, I look at how serviceable they are for the long term. I have not followed JBL in recent years, but if they are still involved on the service end as they once were, at least on their higher end gear, I'd just end up going with them.

ETA: I guess JBL is now owned by Harman? Ok, that's not the same JBL I grew up with.

What kind of budget are you looking at? I own SVS Ultra Books for my front 3 and they don't fall apart under pressure. Since I'm using subs low end is pretty much a non issue, but the Ultras do play flat down to 48-50hz with authority. I've never bottomed them out even at high spl, using them full range without the subs.

They're very good speakers and have no problem filling my large room with sound. I can hit almost concert levels at my seating position. I got all 3 of mine from their outlet. 2 of them were $399 and the third one I picked up for $349. That's a steal for what they are. With a 45 day trial and free shipping both ways you can't lose.

I actually like the SVS stuff. I wouldn't mind owning the setup you have.
