Advice on where to spend money and speaker choice

Thanks in advance for the help.

I am looking to buy some in ceiling speakers to go in my living room.

Receiver: Denon S720W

I'd like to mitigate the in ceiling as much as possible by purchasing front speakers that include directional drivers as well as tweeters (assuming this is a thing and will actually provide some benefit). I was also thinking tiered spend by importance.

Based on the size of the room I'm thinking 5.1 (Room is prewired for 7.1).

I'd like to get out for under $1k. Thinking about the following:

Center: MartinLogan Electromotion IC 6-1/2

Front R/L: RSL C34E

Rear: Polk RC80 or something similar?

Super newb, so let me know if my ideas are misguided or posted in the wrong spot.

Thanks

It's best to timbre-match the speakers and using three different brands causes a lack of continuity in the sound, even with Audyssey. Ideally, all speakers would be the same.

I personally would avoid in ceiling speakers for anything other than height effect channels. Never for the main front 3. Too much of a compromise in sound quality imo.

I also wouldn't do in-ceiling speakers except maybe height effects, but particularly not for mains. I have friends who love the aesthetic in that there are no boxes; they love their ceiling speakers but I didn't. I don't mind boxes, tho. I'd also at least use the same speakers for the three fronts.

What would you do for a sub?

Ceiling works for surrounds too, but is still not ideal. For mains, definitely not.

In-ceiling speakers for fronts make me sad.

I am weeping gently as I type this.

Curious why the different manufacturers? You'll want to keep your speakers from the same manufacturer, and ideally the same line, or in some cases they're timber matched between lines. Many I/W and I/C speakers have aimable tweeters but as these guys have said, don't do it. Maybe for surrounds at most. Triad makes a compelling case for I/C but they're really expensive, and still not quite the same. Is the wire stubbed out, or are there holes cut, or what's the state of the room? What made you interested in, in ceiling speakers?

Triad has a Bronze/8 Satellite InCeiling Speaker that's $400 MSRP. More expensive than other brands, but worth it if you have the budget. http://www.triadspeakers.com/products/everywhere-audio/ic-bronze8-sat/

Contact me and I'll see what I can do regarding price. I'll also need some room info so I can calculate how well these will work for you: seating distance from the wall, ceiling height and average ear height.

There are other options from many other speaker companies if you are willing to go with inwall or onwall speakers.

I'm in step with most of the other posts for inwall fronts. If you must go that route for WAF. Just realize you're in a compromised position in terms of getting the best sound. I know that doesn't matter to some women or people...you just have to realize this is an enthusiast forum for the most part....SQ matters.

In walls that face the listener/viewer are a lot better than in ceiling front speakers as fronts.

I just bought the Polk RC80i for Atmos in my HT and haven't even had time to hook them up, but I've heard them and for the money they are not bad.

For a high quality inwall/inceling speaker where SQ matters...I would look at Noble Fidelity. Just on the fronts alone with them I think you would exceed your budget...but they are worth it.
