Denon AVR-X3300W vs. Yamaha RX-A1060? AND, what about refurbished from A4L?

Not to be a buzzkill, but I bought a Yamaha RX-A1060 based on Yamaha's reputation for reliability. After returning TWO 1060's I'm now looking at purchasing a Marantz or Denon. The first 1060 would shut off after a few minutes of playing. Returned it and the second one would randomly adjust the volume to excruciatingly loud or too soft to hear. Returned it and am now back in the market for a good (not Yamaha) receiver.

Of course your mileage may vary. My previous Yamaha lasted for years and was great. Also most people who own Yamaha receivers love them.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck. My RX-V1800 shows no signs of slowing down... and the old RX-V1500 which I bought used is also operating flawlessly. Hell, my Yamaha KX-800U cassette deck which I also bought used two years ago is go strong in both the reocrd and playback capabilities... :D

You just never know these days. :(

It could probably happen with any brands.

To me, it's more important to get something that has the features and price you want and to buy it BRAND NEW from a good place.

It might be a good idea to get a price match at Best Buy.

To clarify, these were new units or refurbs?

I don't have input on either one of those receivers, but I will chime in regarding A4L. I just purchased a Pioneer Elite VSX-90 which retails for $699, for $299. It seems like a banging deal at that price with boatloads of features including MCACC pro, dual subwoofer outputs, auto sub eq!!!, wifi bluetooth blah blah blah everything except DTS:X as far as I can tell. 7 channels but I don't even have 5 going yet so whatever. I couldn't find a better deal in any other brand especially considering the sub eq feature which is limited to $800+ with Denon. Of course the question is how well does it work???

Fwiw Audyssey MultEq, Xt and XT32 all provide eq for subs...Altho Audyssey SubEq adds seperate level/delay for two subs.

I think MCACC Pro also independently levels two subs
Last I looked at a Pioneer manual for such a unit that wasn't clear, altho had heard before that's one feature it was capable of...but both should eq the multiple subs together....
