Need some advice on floorstanding speakers.

I figured the resale would be the biggest issue. My next step is deciding on which kit will best suit what I want out of the speakers. Ive never looked into kits before. I'm to have to spend a little while looking around before I decide on a particular one. Any others in particular I should consider?
Like I said, the Solstice is the one I've been drooling over! Resale is likely the only issue with DIY, honestly after you put the time and effort into it, you probably won't feel like trying to sell them anyway.

Those ER18 are not a kit, but very well respected speakers.

PE has some good selection. Honestly, the check out the parts-express tech talk (PETT) forums, they have a wealth of speaker kit info on there.

A member on here recently built the Fusion Tempest (another Jeff Bagby design), and was very pleased with them

So I did some research and I looked like the Statement II speakers could also be a good build option. One of the things I'm really worried about is the ability of what ever I build having the ability to handle power and play loudly.

Yeah, the statements won't have any issues with that. Same for the Fusion, did you read that thread on AH? But, Fusions are not towers.

You do realize that the Statements are LARGE speakers, right? May not be an issue, but be aware of that. Search these forums for Statements.

I have absolutely no problem with huge speakers. I just want the the best sound I can get. By the reviews, it also seems like I wouldn't need a pair of subs. That saves me at least $500 right there.

You're thinking of only spending $250 per sub? Can't get much for that....

Keeping you expectations realistic may save $500 too.

How low do your need the speakers to go without subs?

The answer likely depends on the type of music that you listen to. Hip-Hop, Electronic, and Pipe Organs will need the lower frequencies, down into the 20Hz range likely. If you are not listening to these types of music, then you may not need a sub anyway.

Assuming that this is a music system. If this is also gonna play movies, then a sub is typically recommended regardless of the speakers.

That's what I said at least incase I found something used. New, I'd probably be spending around 800. Maybe an Hsu uls 15 mk2 or dual svs sb1000. Either way I think it's around $800.

Agreed, but there are a few good options.

But, if he builds capable speakers like the Statements, then it is absolutely pointless to add a sub if it can't keep up with the Statements (i.e. may need to spend more $ on the sub to get any benefits).

I use my system for TV and gaming as well, but I don't really care about that stuff. I want my system optimized for music. I like punchy bass, so I really want to stick to sealed if I get subwoofers. I listen to mostly progressive rock and progressive metal.

DIY would be best here as well. $250 commercial subs are pretty much crap.

Just go diy on the sub. Flatpacks are available with decent drivers from parts-express.com like this http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-15-ultimax-subwoofer-and-cabinet-bundle--300-7097. Use a rack amp that can handle two of them.
Yup, if you DIY the main L/R, then you may as well DIY the subs too. In fact, DIY on the subs may be a better/easier place to start if you have no DIY experience. But, if you don't already have any main L/R speakers, then start there.
