Been out of Home Theater a while, need advice

So my home theater system has been dormant for almost 4 years now,due to glitches in my 8 year old Outlaw 970 Processor. It never performed completely satisfactory even with software updates, so I stopped using it altogether. It was paired with the Outlaw 7075 amplifier, which I had no issues with.
My speaker set up is mostly Axiom, with 2 M-60 towers, a VP-100 center channel, and two SQ-4 surrounds, and an Outlaw LF-2 subwoofer.

At this point, I'm trying to determine if it is worth keeping the amplifier and buying another processor, or dump the amplifier and buy an A/V receiver instead. Ideally my budget would be $ 500 or under. Is that realistic for a modest set-up these days?

How large is your room and distance from the mains do you sit?
I'd look at the denon x4200, should be an improvement.

Not sure you'll find an avp or avr with pre-outs for 500. Check accessories4less.com for refurbs with warranty. Good company.

The area is part of finished basement, is U shaped and 9 feet wide at TV, and 10 feet deep, then opens up behind seating area, ceiling is 7' high. We sit about 8' in front of mains. We only play movies on it, and don't listen at very high levels.

Thanks, kind of getting that same impression on $ after some preliminary research.

Found a Factory refurbished Yamaha TSR-7790 on their site for under $ 400, seems like a good deal to me to replace the Outlaw separates.
